Thank you, Everyone, for your kind comments and suggestions! You have no idea how much I appreciate all the ideas, and warnings from pet owners about black! I'll keep that in mind. Later this summer, I hope to make a mini of this quilt for myself, with shades of black for the background. I can do that, I no longer have pets or messy children. Well, at least not living with me!

I spent some time yesterday at the LQS with two friends, and we decided on three shades of purple. I can't think of any color I like less, but it is what looked best and in keeping with her favorite colors, red and purple. I will post pics when I'm done, probably around July 12, my deadline.

Thanks bunches,

Mary Ann

I would outline the heart with black, then use a soft pink for the rest

I vote for black...

The black is too harsh. I think you need a softer color - a cream or a soft pink.

That being said ... I really like the punch that the black would give. How about using a bright navy? or a rich, royal purple? ... both dark enough to give a contrast yet bright enough to not look black. I think both of these could be
very effective and give you a really classy rich look to the finished quilt.

Your design is really great ... quite clever!

I agree with no black. I agree with using a great navy! I'm a survivor and would not like the pink. Too much of it already. She is in my prayers for courage and a complete recovery.

My son was a cancer patient, fought it for 3 years. By the grace of God he has been 10 years clean. From this experience if you chose to use black I know it will not be in any way a negative for your friend. I have written down all the color suggestions as I never would have thought to use them. Now I have more ideas and choices!

I would audition the look on different colors. Pink someone mentioned, but I think the complement to red, is green, and it would be very pretty. With the amount of purple, you might want to see how that looks as well.

I agree, yellow would make it all pop...either way, it's beautiful.
