The Elna doesn't care if I ZZ with the walking foot on. I don't know about the MW. I didn't use it on the black quilt and didn't feel a need for it.

I use decorative stitches down the center of each strip in quilts I make with jelly rolls. I think it looks just fine.

I use decorative stitches where ever I please on mine. I didn't know there were rules. I thought that was what they were for. Ignorance is bliss!

I used to use decorative stitches exclusively instead of an overall quilting design. For 2 reasons: I was terrified of FMQ and my machine had some awesome stitches. I found using different colors of thread added a lot to a design and helped hide my less than perfect sewing abilities. I have now learned to FMQ and I still use some decorative stitches. Love the added texture, color and design. Do what makes you happy!

I thought I "had the market" on using serpentine stitch to quilt. I've done lots of quilts like that. Serpentine stitch makes me look like a pro quilter when I usually can't sew very straight SITD! I usually set it for the longest widest stitch. It always comes out looking good.

I use the decorative stitches on my quilts quite a lot since I only SITD, the decorative stitches add something to the quilt.
