Ok, I bite. what is a deelybob??

Tartan 01-31-2014 03:33 PM

I believe they are different sized shapes that go into cone threads to adapt them to regular use on your machine thread spindle. Sounds handy but no idea how to use them.

tessagin 01-31-2014 03:35 PM

I'll bite too. What is it?

deelybob

Deelybob! I had to look that up on the net. I have heard of the adaptors but did not now what they were called. LOL while growing up my Grand mothers referred to anything they could not remember the correct name for as the deelybob! Have not heard that word in years.

Shelbie 01-31-2014 04:53 PM

I have this and use it all the time. The different pieces can be used with different thread cones and spools to make them fit your machine. You don't need to use all the parts at once. My old Singer needs different ones than my Husqvarna as the spool pins are quite different. I just keep trying until I have the best fit so that the cone doesn't flop or rattle around.

That is always what I thought a deelybob was....anything you couldn't remember the correct name for...or anything you never knew the correct name for. But, like you, I have not heard the term in years. Nice to know it has a current meaning. :)

Me too, I hadn't heard that term in decades !! Brings back memories of my Grandmother who taught me how to sew !!

I have never used these but they look really neat!

leatheflea 02-01-2014 06:44 AM

Learn something new today, I had no clue what a Deelybob was. I've heard of a thiga-a-ma-bob, I was pretty sure it was its cousin....I was wrong!

Marti1943 02-01-2014 06:55 AM

Thanks for the info.

decky 02-01-2014 02:15 PM

Well I'll be !! I thought deelybob was a word that was used when you didn't know the name of something.

I learn something new every time I visit the Quilting Board. Thanks.

The same word used at our house too deelybob!

a friend told me to put a serger spool in a big cup.
works like magic, and costs nothing.

lclang 02-02-2014 05:17 AM

I just use an empty cone and put it into the cone I want to use from the bottom. It holds the top spool up so that the thread does not bind when it unwinds. Cheap, easy, quick! If you need to you can set it in a quart jar behind your machine so it will not tip over.

RV Quilter 02-02-2014 05:43 AM

I found my Guterman cone clicks into the top of an empty Guterman spool.....works like a charm. Before that I used a coffee mug to set the cone in.

nyelphaba 02-02-2014 06:06 AM

I have one and I love it. Use it with large cones of thread, mostly to wind bobbins. It is terrific.

I don't know what it is but I was told you could take a regular size thread spool and put inside of the larger spool to make it fit your spool holder i haven't done it so am not sure but thought I would post the idea anyway.

citruscountyquilter 02-02-2014 08:32 AM

When I saw deelybob I thought you must be talking about the thingamagig. Little did I realize that a word commonly used around here was actually the name of something. Learn something new all the time!

caspharm 02-02-2014 10:08 AM

I had one, but sold it. It wasn't small enough to use on my FW with my thread.

TerryQuilter 02-02-2014 10:48 AM

I have them and use them all the time. They fit over your thread spindle (vertical spindle, never used them with horizontal spindle) so when you use cone thread it doesn't wobble when you sew. I think there are a couple of sizes, pick the one that best suits your thread cone size.

Marti1943 02-02-2014 10:56 AM

What set-up do you use on the husqvarna?

riutzelj 02-02-2014 11:10 AM

deelybobs and thingamagigs, historically what you called something when you didn't know the name,
You know that thingamagig that holds spools a thread. Or It is that deelybob that you do such and such a thing with.

Wonder what an Oxford Dictionary would define them as.

kdid82 02-02-2014 12:55 PM

I only have one - a wooden one and use it quite frequently, comes in real handy

I thought a deelybob was the same thing as a whickerbilly until I googled deeleybob. froggyintexas

terri bb 02-02-2014 05:53 PM

and i learn something new every day! i thought it was like that thingamajigger!

wraez 02-02-2014 08:39 PM

I personally wouldn't spend the money on one ... for the few large center thread spools that I have, another spool of gutterman I think, fits right down the center, no need for a deelybob.

purplefiend 02-04-2014 12:19 AM

I have one and it doesn't work very well for me. I much prefer an all metal cone thread stand for larger spools.
