Just present her with a photo of what you have and an IOU for the finished project by a certain date.

crochetetc 12-22-2010 06:59 AM

So no luck on finding the angels and I give up after tearing up and cleaning the sewing room. To make matters worse my hubby says they were sitting on the table before you cleaned it...oh well.

I made a trip to the LQS and picked up some alternate blue and yellow fabric and will toss together a table runner and give that to her with her handmade ornaments. Not going to stress over not finding them..there is always Christmas next year and I have labeled and put up the remaining angel and matching fabric for the wall
hanging.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and suggestions.

I read somewhere that lost things are usually found within 18 inches of where they are supposed to be. It's worked for me. [Also St. Anthony is great and I don't think you have to be Catholic.]

They will show up, after Christmas.

Yes! Please let us know so we'll know where to look when we lose our! ;)

Take a deep breath and and use this as a mantra, "I did not toss them and they are in the house somewhere" I do that and eventually I find what I am looking for. Static electricity could have them stuck on fabric or sweaters or...

Backtracking like that helps me. I hope you find them.

I wasn't able to finish a rag quilt for m husband because he was always around when I tried to work on it...so I wrapped it anyway and will tell him I will finish once the holidays are over. Can you do the same with her gift?

Did this with 600.00 worth of money orders - did not have the St Anthony prayer then - I put them in plain envelope on computer desk - I remembered that - unfortunately My grandkids play with empty envelopes all the time and I happen to share that room with them - thinking my envelope was still in safe place I began to clean up the shared room finding envelopes everywhere because all four of my grandkids enjoyed playing post office. I started tossing envelopes and remember tossing one that was blank on outside - just like one that I thought was safe!!! Cant prove it but I am thinking thats where it went. Unfortunately I couldnt replace or cancel money orders since the copy I would need was still attached to original money orders. Expensive lesson learned - I hope someday I will find them lol

I could lose my rear if it wasn't attached so I know how you feel. I have recently learned to pray to St. Anthony and I find things all the time now. Give it a try.

owie 12-22-2010 10:59 AM

Just in case you do not find them why not just tell her that you misplaced them and they will be a little late getting to her. Show her what you have already completed and tell her how it will look once you finish it. If she is a good person and I think she probably is, she will accept that. Let us know if you find them.

Yellow Bird 12-22-2010 11:23 AM

I feel your pain....because I misplaced two little girl's aprons.

I was commissioned to make a ruffled girl's apron. Didn't like the first one, so I made a second.

I put both in a zip top bag and placed in the car.

Sometime between placing them in the car and giving to the lady they disappeared. Simply vanished. That was 10 months ago.

I made another....and am hoping they show up sometime this year.

kateyb 12-22-2010 12:20 PM

I hate when I do that.

Kayaker26 12-22-2010 02:42 PM

Go make yourself something that you are not supposed to have and it will come to you, and if it doesn't it is because you were supposed to give her something else. Besides Grandmas love whatever we make for them!

huntannette 12-22-2010 03:31 PM

pray to Saint-Antoine ...he always helps me find what i have lost

Jo Belmont 12-22-2010 04:33 PM

Prayers, relaxing, etc. - I couldn't agree more. But here's another suggestion:

Did you put them under something flat or possibly in a book to keep them flat until the others were done? Could be as one mentioned, that they're within inches of where you're looking.

My prayers too.

2livesdown7togo 12-22-2010 05:45 PM

I always find that things are "lost" to me when I'm stressed. In this case, the quilting fairies know that if they give the pieces to you now, there might be mistakes and you'll spend even more time you don't have making things right.

Breathe. And remember how much time you're saving not having to do it all twice.

It's worked for me all my life. Except for those disappearing orphan socks from the dryer. That's not the fairies' doing, they told me so :D

sewingsuz 12-22-2010 06:15 PM

Yes I have a friend who is a Atheist and she lost a check for 2000 dollars one time when i was working for her. i told the whole office to pray to St Anthony. In about an hr or so I ask her if she looked in a certain file. This file had nothing to do with this check and guess what, it was there.

kwiltkrazy 12-22-2010 06:49 PM

I have done that, but I usually find them the minute that I stop looking for them.

sewingsuz 12-22-2010 06:56 PM

OH NO This was alot of pain for you. [quote=emsgranny]

kathidahl 12-22-2010 07:35 PM

They will be folded up in another piece of fabric you looked at...think back to what pieces of your stash you had your hands on...

butterflies5518 12-22-2010 08:07 PM

my "ah ha" moments are in the morning while fixing my hair - praying you find the items

IBQUILTIN 12-22-2010 08:25 PM

I'm so sorry you misplaced them, think backwards from the last time you remember seeing them. Or just think of something else a while, they'll show up

Start going through bags that might have fabric in them. I misplaced some fabric that I needed desperately for a quilt, had used some of it and needed more. No fabric sore closer than 85 miles, and I had the fabric for a good while , so no chance of getting more. I had given up and picked up a bag of fabric I had taken to my quilting group about two weeks before, neat aren't I , lol. anyway there was the fabric in that bag.
Just keep looking and hopefully you will find them in time. If not, could you make her a table runner I have been making some with the easiest of patterns and they take such a short time. PM me if you need the pattern. Gerbie.

Oh dear! I have done that. It's my "Old Timers" disease. When I get too busy or have a deadline, I misplace something. Sometimes I get lucky and find it but there are some items I've misplaced that I believe went to the planet mongo.

HisPatchwork 12-23-2010 05:42 AM

I can relate! I have a bow tuck bag to make for a friend. {she is giving it as a gift} I got started yesterday morning, and I could not find my pattern! I was so aggravated! I finally found it late in the day.....on my computer table!!! right on top!!!!! Guess I should have been here looking at the board... I might have looked over and saw it laying there! {less than 12" from the mouse}

Connie Merritt 12-23-2010 02:10 PM

Time to call in the troups; St. Anthony do your stuff and find her angels. Gabriel two of your angels are missing put out an APB and help find them. Gather round quilters and chant "Angels come to me, Angels come to me". Who knows it may work. Please let us know if they show up. Prayers are on the way.

queendaria 12-24-2010 09:19 AM

We are all feeling your pain. Here's my story: Can't find my diamond engagement ring. Really lovely rock bought 46 years ago by my darling husband. I have looked everywhere, prayed to St. Anthony (even though I'm a Presbyterian!), and have cleaned out all the closets. I never take it off willy-nilly because it was a tight fit. I think of it every single day and hope that it will magically appear. Can't wait to see your post one day saying you found those angels.

That is heart breaking!

Kathidahl - so sorry to hear about your ring. I will pray for you. One Thanksgiving, I realized just as we were sitting down to dinner, rings were missing. No problem, I had taken them off to mix the stuffing and put them right in the corner of the dish cupboard. BUT when I went to get it my wedding band was there, but not my. I was devastated and didn't enjoy the dinner at all. Later that night my DH sat down to finish off a bag of hard pretzels. Normally he just tosses the salt at the bottom of the bag out, but this time he decided to have just a tiny bit...there in the bottom of the bag was my diamond! I guess the bag was sitting on the counter under the cabinet while dinner was being prepared and when pulling out plates it must have fallen out. Wow! I was very relieved. I remember years ago, my mother lost the diamond out of her ring....I finally found it on the floor in the family room. Hopefully your story will have a happy ending too.
