I like the random one the best also. After you have it arranged, I find it helpful to take a picture. Somehow you see things in a picture that you don't in person. Then as a second step I edit the photo to black and white. It will show you the value of the blocks. You may want to adjust for that also. You are doing great for a new quilter!

I like the first two but not especially keen on the third. This is a really super way to make an I Spy quilt - I hadn't thought of putting strips around a charm square if whatever size. And quilts don't always need borders. As for the one thst is too blue, try adding a small (no wider than 1" finished) strip between the quilt and whatever border you might like. Adding another color many times gives thst spark a quilt needs.

I like 1 and 2 but three is missing the cooler colors.

I love the second layout. Children love rainbows!

I love the random layout, but I am all about scrappy quilting! ;)
I'd love to see the quilts you put to the UFO pile so soon in your quilting life. Can there be a too blue quilt? Welcome to the board and we are eager to see your finished quilt!! You are indeed doing very good work on your piecing!! |
i vote for the second

All the arrangements are well done but the second is my favorite.
You're really good at these "random" layouts. Not everyone can arrange it so the random items look planned. |
I like the first one, also.

I rearranged this one more time. This is the one I will use (the next one may be random, as I don't have enough of each color to duplicate this one). I have to make a few squares to have everything to come out facing the right way. I need to replace one purple, which I've already cut out. Also, I decided to replace the stark white ones with some cream colored sashed squares.
I'm also considering adding another row to make it a tad larger. The way it is, it will be 42X54. If I add a row, it will be 42X60. It's a play quilt, so it needs to be small enough to drag around, but large enough for a kid to wrap up in. What do you think? I can't imagine a border that would add to this quilt, but will probably "try out" a small one anyway. Generally speaking, I think borders make a quilt look "finished". bkay |
Oh I like that bKay!! By now you are probably cross-eyed, right? :D
