What if this fabric was bagged up - handled with gloves and a mask - hauled to a laundromat with huge washers -

washed with what? in hot water - and dried - I'd probably want to add all sorts of things - but I've learned that not all chemicals play nicely together. (Bleach and ammonia, for example)

If it got better - yippee!

If it still is icky - then pitch it.

I don't know that much about this mold/mildew/whatever or how sensitive you are to this stuff.

If it only has a few spots, I think I would try to rescue it. If it was really black, I think I would toss it.

But I'm not you and I don't know exactly what your fabrics are looking like.

I've just looked at a site about black mold. The link is http://www.blackmoldremovalguide.com. Sounds like pretty scary stuff. Diluted bleach might work, but wouldn't this affect the colours in your fabric as well?

Black mold is really nasty stuff. Even if it isn't the deadly kind, it can still wreck your health while you deal with it. I wouldn't take the chance - pitch it and start over.

I not sure what you should do..I'd be careful..it's not worth getting sick over..I for one would be willing to send you some of my stash!! Hope this helps???

I sure hope you don"t have to lose all that fabric, but it's not worth getting sick over.

sunshine will help kill mildew- and (lighten) the spots...unfortunately it is very hard to actually remove mildew spots but washing then out in the sun certainly helps- and the sun will kill the spores so no more can grow-spread.

there is a difference between mildew and black mold...2 very different animals...sometimes people see a dark spot---and panic sets in...
after washing- spending time in the sun you can cut away any areas still showing mildew- and use the un-effected fabrics without worry.

Black mold and mildew is very different. If its a lot of fabric, wash it, let dry in sun. A grocery bag or two, well go with your heart. I wouldn't count on getting the black spots from mildew out but you may be able to cut around it.

Shouldn't your insurance company cover the loss? Wouldn't that result in shopping for fabric? I hope for a good result.

Be careful with that mold. Especially around the girls. You know I will share my stash with you.

Don't think twice. Toss it in the garbage. People on the board will send you more fabric. I don't maintain a stash, otherwise I would help supply you with some more fabric.
