I posted awhile back that we lost our out building to a tree and my fabric was in there and some of it was in rubbermaid totes and it's alright I think but some of it was in drawers and one smaller tote and it got wet and mildewed. Now it's stained black in spots . Is there any way to get this out ? I tried oxiclean and soaked it for 1 hour but it didn't come out. I really don't want to lose the fabric can any of you help please?!

If it is black mold then you should dispose of it. Black mold will make you or anyone inhaling it very sick. Your extension office can tell you whether it is, indeed, black mold. This is nothing to mess with.

Some of it was still wet when we got it out so it was in stagnated water.

I have never been successful at getting black mold spots out of fabric. However, I think in your situation I'd try hydrogen peroxide. Here is a link:

Try a tablespoon or two of TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) when you wash it. Can be found at Ace Hardware. It will clean just about anything.

as much as it will hurt you to do this, I would bag every bit of it and set it out for your trash pick up. I have friends that lived in a house with black mold and years later, they still have breathing/lung issues that is related to breathing the mold spores. your life is NOT worth trying to save the fabric.

Don't be to sad over the loss of some fabric. Be glad you weren't in there too. If you had insurance the cost of your material may be covered for replacement. And just a quick note about this. I really don't think alot of us know just how much worth we have in our stash. I know I have thousands invested. This should be listed under your home owners policy or renters policy for replacement value. Something to think about!Glad you are okay!

OK - this is from someone that is hugely allergic to all types of mold.
If it is truly black mold - then your health and that of your family and friends is not worth it. For the cost of rebuilding your stash, everyone will be healthier. As much as I hate to say it - pitch it. |
be careful handling that fabric. It could be that it is not worth the risk of keeping it.

I've soaked things in ammonia water or lysol water or oxiclean soak over night. It required an over night soak....
