My DH knows that I've been looking for my zodiac sign in fabric for ages. He knows I love celestial things, and that I've done a lot of studying of astronomy.
So, today he tells me that he bought me fabric that he thinks I'll like - and that it should be arriving in the mail any day now. Aquarius fabric!! And, not only that, but he said, "I don't know how much yardage goes into a big quilt, but I got you 8 yards. Hope that's enough." So... what would you make with it?? |
COOL! Kudos to DH!!
I would make a wall hanging! |
How sweet of him!
|
That is some pretty fabric. I have the same problem of trying to figure what to make with fabric. I am sure someone will come along with some good suggestions. Will you post pictures of what you make.
|
oh I certainly will post pictures of whatever I make. :)
I might actually get a quilt just for me. The man did good. I can't wait till I actually get it. |
Blue and green Storm At Sea or maybe Mariner's Compass? It's beautiful!
|
Your DH is a keeper. How nice of him.
|
I'd do a star quilt with all sizes and shapes of stars all pieced together and I'd use the fabric your sweet DH got you as a backing so you don't have to cut it all up in pieces. The fabric is beautiful and your DH is a keeper!
|
What a sweet husband. Would the fabric work for a stack and whack?
|
What you have shown us here, it looks like a nice fabric .... that I'd like as a backing. What about a lap quilt?? .... go backwards here and figure out how much you'd need for the backing.
Then what is left, work with it for the front .... I'm thinking of something a fussy cut, or just cut the remainder into blocks with other fabrics as joiners to build a nice design. This may seem odd, but you asked ... and I shared what came to mind! |
You should have sufficient fabric for both backing and to fussy cut motifs from the fabric to enhanse your design.
Think something simple that will show off the fussy cut pieces. |
I don't have any idea for a pattern, but I know that was very sweet of your husband.
|
I'll have to see how large everything is as soon as I get it. I'm thinking I'll probably try to fussy cut something.
Maybe a Warm Wishes type? With fussy cut centers? I'll have to see it in person before I come up with a final answer. |
I love it. Hubby is wonderful.8 yards too. How great. I would do a two sided quilt. One where that is the center woth blocks around it and then the other side is stars or store at sea or a mariners compass. I would get this blue sky fabric from Joanns that is really cool too. It will go great with the fabric.
|
It shows he is paying attention and loves you very much. Then I would make that quilt you want.
|
you should make yourself a quilt with it
|
Wow, he did good!
You have enough fabric where you can fussy cut the motifs. A kaleidoscope might be interesting. With 8 yards, you would have enough for 2 different quilts. |
ohhhh, it's lovely. what can you make - apparently anything you want! it's 8 yards!!! how nice of him to do that for you
|
Good dear husband.
|
yep a keeper my dh would not have a clue
|
ROFLMAO....8 yards?????? What a great hubby!!!

So I read your post, I love that fabric. I have not read all the responses, but I would do a star with a fairly large center to show off the fabric, and then bring out some of the blues and or greens for the points of the stars.
|
It is very nice fabric. I am aquarius too. Eight yards? That is a lot. Maybe make a personal very large lap quilt and use about 5 yards on the back, 1 yard as a border and the rest in key areas in the quilt like an attic window or just framed in strips. It looks gorgeous. You could also make a Queen size quilt, making two matching pillow cases (2 yards for this), use 2 yards for a border and the rest for focal fabric in the quilt top. Use a contasting color for the back. Aaaahhhhh...endless possibilities. Enjoy!

How sweet is that? I don't think my DH would ever think of buying me fabric- I guess I am too picky. |
Okay honestly
First thing I thought of when I saw this was bathroom! Do you have a white bathroom?? This would make AWESOME curtians and shower curtian and towel trim. I know its not quilting...but man thats what I would do in a teal blue bathroom!

I would make a quilt that could be used as a bed cover and pillow shams to go with it.
|
With 8 yards, you can make anything you want and a lot of it.

This may seem odd, but you asked ... and I shared what came to mind! You see, I don't like "plain" backings, rather something of interest. Thus why I made my suggestion as there was clearly enough fabric there to work for both the front and back ... with some planning! |

It sounds like a great backing!

Fussy cut...large circles.
|
I love it since I'm an aquarius. I think I'd fussy cut it for blocks and use coordinatimg colors for blocks made with stars in between. With all that material you can make e nice size quilt and even pillows. Where did he find it.
|
Wow, that is some unique fabric. Is it cotton? Nice color.... :)
