They talked about the rising cost of cotton and why. He looked at me and said, "good thing you have a lot of fabric and won't have to buy any for a while." I just nodded. My stash is no where near some of yours. I have just one plastic three drawer cabinet and he thinks i have a lot. What he doesn't know won't hurt him. I will be buying on sale and looking for bargains.

He doesn't get it :D:D
One of our local thrift stores frequently has fabric. And they only charge $1.00 per piece. It certainly has helped me build my stash on the cheap.
I get discouraged by the cost of some of the fabric. BUT ~ I do have lots of clothes that my kids are outgrowing at the rate of a bad weed and am looking more internal for scrap fabric building. If its not pure cotton it will be backed with interfacing. One way or another I will keep sewing and creating. =)
Oh honey you still have a long ways to go before you have enough fabric to last a while. LOL!!
Mine didn't 'get it' either until he got into woodworking. You should see his stash of pen blanks, bowl blanks and pieces of wood he has just because 'the grain of the wood is so nice.' And his stuff is alot more costly than mine!
Luckily, my DH is too scared to open that door, lol
At least he is showing an interest in your hobby...LOL
No you should run before it all goes up and get three or more closets full. Three plastic drawers is nothing. I am still building and DH is enabling.

Lord, the clulessness of many DH's. LOL. I still smile when I think about the time I left a big stack of Moda fat quarters on the kitchen counter and DH asked me if I was going to use all those rags as he could use some in his shop.
lol
Ronna, what a good idea "re-purposing" the kids clothes! I'll have to remember that.

Wish my DH had a hobby so he would leave my alone!
Just tell him you are being thrifty, buying it NOW before it goes UP!
According to that picture, you have to get shopping.
DH and I have a non spoken agreement...I won't ask how much his hobby costs him and he won't ask me...but I am glad for the stash I have. Over the next few months I will be investing in backgrounds on sale though!

Besides which all moods in Minnesota have changed drastically. We lost a lot of snow yesterday and it is going up to 47* today. It is 7:00 AM and it is light outside. Whoo-Hoo!!!!!!! Until Friday! Then we are back in the doldrums with 27* weather which is a heckuva lot better than we had two weeks ago. The sun is coming out and as my father used to say "It is going to be a Gor-Jesus day". And, I do believe it is! Edie |
It is just like a man. They have no concept as to what is needed to produce a quilt. A lot of times you need extra faric because you don't have the right color, contrast, or pattern (print on fabric) to complete your project. My feeling is that you never have enough fabric. Jeanniebelle

That's funny! What husband's don't know....

My husband thought my stash was bad.... and then he saw the one my mother has. It's spread out into 3 different rooms. So my one little closet is nothing in comparison. Boys just have no idea sometimes do they?

Than goodness my hubby has an expensive hobby---gardening. He just ordered a load of top soil at the price of about 300.00 and will probably buy a new tiller---heavens only know how much that will be. Of course he says it feeds us and that is why he needs to spend on his hobby---so I say it keeps us warm. Hehehe
Wow! I wish!

My DH is encouraging me to stock up on sale fabric. He knows there really is a shortage. He's a keeper! Says he just wants me to be happy.

Long before they had duplicate checks and you used a check register to record where it went I put Jewel or Domicks (our area grocery stores) into the register whenever I bought craft supplies. The checkout girl asked me why I did that and I responded - "well, he knows he's eating. It explains where all the money is going."

Check out Bonnie Hunter on www.quiltville.com.
She doesn't buy much fabric as she goes to the thrift stores and buys 100 per cent cotton clothing, especially men's cotton shirts. She will tell you all about it. She also is a master at scrappy quilting. She has a "Scrap User's System" that she talks about. A great site, very informative. Check it out! Hugs, Anne in AZ |
