I have made a few using the diagonal cut - you have to be a bit gentle with them as all the edges of the block are bias but I think the kaleido effect is greater than with the squares.

Here's one I made for a friend... I also have made these blocks to set on point in the borders of hexagon and octagon kaleidoscopes. :-D

I had to get up this morning and try some blocks done the "correct" way to see the difference. I think I prefer the diagonal cut. what do you think?

top row diagonal, bottom row squares. far left looks like brains... I may leave that one out!

They're all great ... you really can't compare 4+4 of each. As you know, each block is different, no matter which way. You might have done the 4 prettiest/ugliest of each ..... and then the tables might reverse with the next 4, or 20!!!

Here's my start on a 4PP. Since posting these pics, I've expanded each block to a block in a block with purple fabric.

I'm stalled right now, as I consider the sashing possibilitie. Also, as to how big I want to grow the quilt, and thus, whether I should do more blocks!

It's a design decision. Your quilt, your rules.

it worked your way, so it's fine. squares are just easier to work with and they are cut in layers, matching areas of print through all layers.
your quilt should be great. show us a pic when ready!!

Could you please show us the "virgin" fabric too?
