I have been doing this maybe 5-years.
They go to a women & children"s abuse shelter.
They in return get them to where they are needed most.
I am also taking on adding in the foster children program this year.
Kids being yanked from their homes with nothing but a quilt is sad. So my quilts will be warm and snuggly because they will hold a lot of fallen tears from these kids.

WOW WOW WOW!!! You must have got a WHOLE LOT of fabric!!! Good shopping!

cctx. 11-26-2010 09:16 PM

I spent $40 at Hancocks and another $40 at the Singer store. Hancocks had the titanium scissor set on sale for $9.99 and I grabbed that bargain quick.

hperttula123 11-26-2010 09:16 PM

Awesome!!! Can't believe it only took two hours.

I walked into our local Joann this morning & turned around and walked out... There had to be 50-75 people at the cutting table... And almost that many in the checkout line. :!:

Total paid was $ 458.68
all fabric
In and out in 2-hours.
this usually takes alot longer.

has to go to storage tomorrow.
not enough room in here at the moment.
there is a lot of fabric here being prepped for quilts now.
I cut and box in stages.

I WAS SO surprised at the amount of time.
Most of that was at cutting table.
First thing I did when getting into store was to grab a cutting number then go shopping. Cuts down on wait time.
I also bought a lot of sealed bolts so they only had to scan and NOT roll out and measure. ;) ;) ;)

zzzGP 11-26-2010 10:56 PM

So good for you and the cause you are involved; little ones warm and snuggled! Way to go... :D

Two great ideas: cutting number and sealed bolts! You rock.
Blessings on you and your projects. and the recipients too.

OK, you made me go look at my mile long Joanns receipt to see how I fared. I didn't spend as much as you did - only $43.29, but my savings was $137.07. That's pretty significant.

I have to add though, I shopped for fabric in 3 different stores today so overall I did spend a tad more than a paltry $43!!

Well, there are always good deals at Joanns...I went to our store and there was about 7 people in there and 6 people cutting but no line...how great is that....I walked out with about $300.00 worth of sewing things for $125.00. I was so excited and it didnt take me but 1/2hr to shop cause I knew just what I wanted.

I was actually grateful for the long check out line because I met the sweetest lady who was making things for her new little grandbaby. Boy was she excited about that baby. She made my day!

Mumzbear 11-27-2010 07:18 AM

We were in and out of our JoAnns in less than a half hour and saved over $700. I buy flannel by the bolt for backs so don't have to stand in a cutting line. Price for quilt batts is fantastic! Happy sewing!

Quilt batting is great at JoAnn's. I use 80/20 alot. It is 50% off plus another 20% off your purchase!

I have always enjoyed talking to the people I am in line with.
Have met so many informative and caring people. They are so excited to talk about what they are going to be making with their carts full of fabric.
I am a softie for anyone creating for babies :)

OMG I would have thought you spent close or over $1,000 to save that much.
You did GREAT!!!!

milikaa1 11-27-2010 07:39 PM

I am just not brave enough for the black friday specials or shopping at this time of year, I have fears LOL.

CircleSquare 11-27-2010 08:59 PM

You are all too funny! I love all the comments!
I didn't go to JoAnn's because, 1. it's an hour away, and 2. I don't need any more fabric, and 3. my DH would kill me if I brought any more home. LOL Not really, but I'll never use all the stash I have if I live to be 300 years old!

penski 11-27-2010 09:55 PM

i would say you did good !

What time did you go? There weren't more than 100 shoppers total by 10 a.m. at my store! Of course, everybody else had to go to the other side of the cutting table, because I had 4 cartsful!

I was wondering how many carts it took to accomplish the deed! LOL <wave> good job!

Here is a view of the back of my SUV after I spent 3 hours at JoAnn's this morning! All of the flannel is for Threads of Love newborn intensive care comfort items, and up to $500 of the $600 I spent will be reimbursed.
I don't get reimbursed as I didn't buy for a charity.
I donate it all to charity.

I did a search and couldn't find your post about the picture, haven't read through the entire thread, but ... well, you know <g> I want to see what the backend of the van looks like full of GOODIES! <wave>
