I would love to have most of them back! Each are beautiful and individual to me, but I know they are loved where they are, so that's OK. Just be SURE to take lots of photos before they leave.

I can see why you want it back
No however I have liked a quilt so much that I went back and bought material to make another one! lol
Maybe she would allow you to borrow it for a show. It is a great quilt and I see why you want it back. Yes, I'm finishing a quilt for a friend's retirement that I love, so I decided to make a smaller version for myself. The hardest part was tracking down the fabric--but I did it, thanks to www.quiltshops.com !
What a wonderful, artistic quilt you made--no wonder you want it back. I made a teacup quilt for my girlfriend's 65th b-day. We have been friends since 1st grade and I didn't want to give it away! But I bought more teacup fabric so I will make one for me --someday!!
Not me, at least not so far. By the time I'm done planning, buying, cutting, piecing, and fretting over a quilt I'm so sick of it that I could care less if I ever see it again. I guess my joy comes in the making. That probably explains why I've never made a quilt for myself. Someday maybe.
Agreed...as the others said, I can sure see why you would like it back, but I'm sure it is well loved where it is! I bet they would load it to you to show though.
I made my Grandmother a lap quilt..with pics of everyone in our family on it. When she passed..I have no idea who got it. It was a gift to her and I didn't expect to get it back, but sure would like to know who ended up with it! |
Lots of heart and soul in this one - a reasonable request, I'd say!!!!!
yes, I gave my boss a beautiful< gorgeous quilt that I wish I had back! I don't think he appreciates it as much as i do. oh, well........
All the quilts posted are beautiful! I especially love the cats. My sister would love one like that!
The ones I've given to loved ones who appreciate them and enjoy and use them, it's okay...I have pictures. But if I made one for someone I felt didn't appreciate the time and effort...I may not want to give it away. It's for that reason I haven't made a couple of folks one...I don't think it would be appreciated. I know other things I have made these people as gifts and what-not have not been used or have been misused (IMHO) so I don't bother putting a lot of "me" into their gifts anymore. |
No, but I did give my nephew's wife my Bernina 150 . It was my favorite machine and have regreted it ever since. She never uses the machine. I do have five other machines but I loved that older one.
I'd want that one back, too!
actually made one for my aunt and she had me put a label on it that says, This quilt was made for XXX in the year XXXX and upon her passing will become the Property of ....ME.....
it is in her will as well...but I am the executor so there should be no confusion as to who gets that quilt..as long as she goes first..ehhhe we are only 5 years apart in age! |

I did the same thing... asked for a quilt back for a show. My daughter was excited about her quilt being shown and paid for expedited shipment plus insurance to get it back to me. It won first prize as the best of wall art (it was Monet's Garden in water-color 1" squares). It's a real compliment to a person for them to know that you think their quilt is special enough to be shown.
Anyway, all they can say is "no" or "I'd rather not". You could be nicer and even offer to pay for the shipping. |
I truly would like the cat pattern. Is it possible to find
it and buy it?????? You did an awsome job on it. |

Seriously, is there any quilt you would love to have back? This is the link to the quilt I am referring to.

I gave one to a coworker who retired and I liked it so much that I made another just like it! I was lucky that I had almost enough scraps left over to make the second top and just had to get more for the border and backing.
You bet I did. I was in the middle of making a quilt for our bed (Stack 'N' Whack) when I had a call from my SIL. As we talked I asked her if my MIL, her mother, would ever like a quilt. She almost jumped through the phone answering "Yes". Turned out she wanted the colors I was working on at that moment. So, I finished the quilt and gave it to her. I loved that quilt! Figured that when she passed away, I would end up with it. Nope! My SIL ended up keeping it. Oh well, the SIL never had children and was always very generous to our three so it is in good hands.

Love the cat quilt, and would like to have one like it!!
The quilt that Janet made for her mother is absolutely beautiful... and I would have kept it to have her with me, even though your thought is so unselfish, I don't think I could have don't that. What wonderful hearts you have, ladies. You are beautiful people. |
I did the same thing with a baby quilt I made for my DS and DIL...It was a quilt made from my GS's first year clothes. I struggled for a long time with it and was so proud of myself on the way it turned out...Anyway, they said they were afraid they wouldn't get it back if I put it in a show.....It's on the GS's bed. which in the long run is what I made it for....I've never made a quilt that I thought was good enough for a show except that one....oh well....

No wonder you want it back -- what a delightful fun creation!! Love it!
Thank you Laura3, RobertaMarie, and sewnserge. My Mom really loved her quilt, so I'm happy with my decision.
Yes. I made a quilt for my sister from batiks that were gold , turquoise, and purple. When I finished it my Husband loved it so much he told me if I gave it to my sister he would divorce me! Needless to say he didn't but I had to tell her the quilt almost caused a divorce!
Yes, I made a wall hanging of wolves that I gave to a co-worker. Thank goodness I took pictures of it because every time I think about it I regret that I gave it away.
Made one for my GD and I clean her house, find it not being looked after But as I have learnt on this board once it is given that is it. I have taken it home and washed it a couple of times, and would never say anything as it is hers. (still hurts a little )
Yes, my mother's butterfly quilt, and pretty much every quilt I've made and given to someone else! LOL! Its the nature of a quilter I suppose!
Yes, there is one I would take back. It is the one below. Due to problems while trying to machine quilt, (for the first time) I used batting inside and fleece for the backing. I am sure you all know how well that worked out. NOT! In a panic, (last minute, of course,0 I put a tricot quilted robe fabric on the reverse, and tied it.
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-73306-1.htm * (It was a 'design decision', really. lol!) It did turn out nice and cuddly, if she doesn't lose the baby in all that poof. They live on the North Pacific, so warm is a good thing. |
Yes I've done that a couple of times. Made one for a wedding and loved it so much I made 4 more (for the grandkids when they grow up and get married) and several for my very much loved neighbor (who was like a Mom) and am very sorry to say I am getting those back. In the long run I'd rather have my friend.
Have you considered asking your SIL if you could borrow the quilt back to put in a show. I did that. I made a double wedding ring for my sister who was getting married after 31 years as a widow. The next summer I borrowed the quilt back to put in our state quilt show. She was honored to have her quilt in a show.
Oh my! I can see why you would want that back. Not sure I could have parted with it in the first place. I haven't made that many quilts so, no, I've never made one that I wanted back.
I can understand why you want the quilt, IT IS BEAUTIFUL!

My sister and I made only one quilt together. It was for a toothpick convention. It was not too great but we had so much fun planning it, picking out the fabric. We did pictures, applique and sashing and everything. She went ahead and auctioned it but we have had regrets since. I sure hope it is appreciated.

That is one adorable quilt. No wonder you want it back.
That's beautiful! I think you should make another one for yourself1!!
