that you actually want it back. lol :P I have been going to all these quilt shows and I wish I had the Cat Quilt I made for my SIL to display in a show. I called her the other day and asked her if she would put it in her Will that I get it back. lol :P She said she would after we laughed about the question. Seriously, is there any quilt you would love to have back? This is the link to the quilt I am referring to.

I asked a family I made a baby quilt for if I could have it back for a couple weeks to show it in the county fair after I gave it to them. They were excited, and then doubly happy when it won a ribbon-I was able to sweet talk a second ribbon so they could keep one attached to the quilt.

doll-lady 05-13-2011 05:20 PM

yes, i have. actually i sold the quilt to my sister. it was an indian quilt that turned out so pretty. it had burgundy indian material backing and on the front, i did blocks with cutouts of an indian girl and an indian boy with a gold sun in the sky, a cactus out of green material and a teepee out of a rust material. i alternated the blocks with a girl standing in one and a boy in the next one. i had enough material i think to make another one but haven't gotten around to doing so. there have been many times i was sorry i sold that quilt. she loved the quilt.

scrappycats 05-13-2011 05:22 PM

Yes, it was a quilt I made for my mother last December. It was for her birthday and it was shown all through the Assisted Living home she was living at.

Sadly, I got the quilt back in April when mother went to glory and did not need such mundane things anymore.
It is this one:

Yep and Mom and Dad know when they are gone I am taking them back  LOL

sewbizgirl 05-13-2011 05:33 PM

Why don't you ask your SIL if she would mind loaning the quilt to you to enter in a show? She may like the idea...

It's a fabulous quilt. I wouldn't have been able to give it away.

Scrappycats, I'm very sorry you have lost your mother...

jeanau 05-13-2011 05:34 PM

The quilt you made for your mother is wonderful! What a blessed memory of you and her bound together.

Thank you, when I feel depressed or sad or that I need some strength, I wrap myself up in it.

Wow I love the cat quilt you made-I can truely understand why you almost wish you still owned it. Now if there is a pattern just like that but of dogs instead I would be buying it tonight!
Scrappycats- I am so sorry about your mother's passing. However thrilled to know you received the quilt you made for her back. It's something with great meaning and I am sure will remain a special quilt in your family through the coming generations.

I know that feeling. I made a special quilt for my Mom. She just recently died, and I thought of keeping the quilt, but decided I wanted her to always have it, so it is with her forever.

The pictures were taken before I did the binding.

cjomomma 05-13-2011 05:59 PM

Oh yes! The one I just gave away to Tymeless hearts for their silent auction. It was really hard to hand it over. I may have to make a bid on it to try and get it back. :-).

caliquocat 05-13-2011 06:07 PM

Each quilt I finish is my favorite so it is hard to let them go, but I can't store them all.

Dina 05-13-2011 06:13 PM

That cat quilt is wonderful. You should not have given it away. You know, maybe you want to make another one just like it? That might solve your problem.

Kappy 05-13-2011 06:21 PM

If you made one, perhaps you could make another...and keep it!!!

Yup! It is a Bento Box. It was made for cousin's DD as a wedding gift.
DH loved the quilt so much he wanted to keep it and buy the couple a toaster.
The marriage lasted about 2 months. The bride should have returned all the gifts, but never did. I should have bought them the toaster!

sammygirlqt 05-13-2011 06:55 PM

The cat quilt is just adorable and a lot of work went into it. I can see why you would like it back.

Annaquilts 05-13-2011 07:12 PM

Well I could see you love that quilt very much. Have you asked if you could borrow to display in shows? That way you do not have to wait for you know who to die.

Annaquilts 05-13-2011 07:15 PM

Beautiful. I ran to my mother's home after she passed away to retrieve a quilt DD and I had made for her. I took it back for my daughter, who was the one that gifted it to my mother. My DD, now 22, uses it all the time. I know it gives her great comfort.

Yes, it was a raffle quilt to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. It was the best quilt I’ve ever made. There was also a lot of love & emotion involved in it. Here is a link – it’s the only picture I have of the quilt or I would have posted it without my Dad & I in it. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-121211-1.htm

Four years ago I made a quilt for a fundraiser auction that I liked so well by the time I finished that I made sure I won that auction!
I had told others about the pattern, which fit the theme of the fundraiser, so I couldn't NOT take it. :-)

QuiltE 05-13-2011 07:25 PM

Fabraholic .... your cat quilt is incredible!! I'm not sure I could have given that one away, after all that work.

For sure, you should borrow it back and enter it in shows.

I know the feeling ... I gave one last year as a wedding give that I liked a lot. At the time I had not thoughts of entering it, and then, suddenly I thought, well yes!

So I asked if I could repossess it ... they were thrilled. Even more so, when they found out that their quilt was a Red Ribbon Winner, which here in Canada means it stood first! :) As for me ... first time entering, and did it more for the achievement of entering and when I walked in and saw the ribbon, I started to shake and cry ... can you tell I was shocked?

No wonder you regret giving away your cat quilt. It's gorgeous ( and I am a dog person ).

Painiacs 05-13-2011 07:39 PM

Yep just gave it to mom for mothers day. Maybe it's because her reaction was so wonderful!!

Painiacs 05-13-2011 07:42 PM

I'm not even a cat person and I want to make one!!

Carron 05-13-2011 09:00 PM

Yes, One I made for a raffle....really, really liked that particular quilt.
Well, the lady who won the raffle only bought tickets because the money was going for a great cause and it ends up that she said she was not a quilt type person (go figure), she then presented it back to me as a gift.
I told her she could not give away her quilt, her reply was "it was her quilt now and she coul do any thing she wanted with it." So I accepted it with a big smile.

jitkaau 05-14-2011 02:47 AM

You can easily make it again if it is that well - liked?

19angel52 05-14-2011 03:06 AM

Nope - so far, not. Maybe you can make one just like it to show?

I really can not duplicate that particular quilt. I don't have the same fabrics and as I still have all the patterns, I was just soooo much work, which I loved at the time, but I have moved on to new adventures in quilting. I like to do different things to keep my creativity going. I may make another type of cat quilt and see if she would trade ;-) lol I may have to negotiate a little!
