Did you get sewing accomplished this weekend?

Maybe by posting our progress each weekend , we may encourage everyone ( including me) to get motivated with our sewing. So easy to stray curled up in my easy chair with my flannel rag quilt instead when I do have a little down time. So this is what I got done this weekend. Not as much as I hoped but I did make some progress. Just trying to use up some of what I have.

1.finished wrapping my fabric on the comic boards. I now have 200 boards on the shelf. ( need more boards)

2. Made 3 nice receiving baby blankets.

3. Cleaned out two drawers

4. Made 2 burp cloths and a couple of strip blocks.

5. Cut up netting and made 8 nylon scrubbies.

6. Sorted thru some material to donate.

Felt good to get a little bit done, what about you?

lots2do 01-06-2013 03:49 PM

Wow, you sure got a lot done! I'm sorry to say...I didn't do any sewing at all. Some knitting, though and lots of planning, maybe that counts a little.

tezell0801 01-06-2013 03:54 PM

I finished my second ever quilt top. Trying to decide if I want to quilt it or send it to a quilter.

twoxover 01-06-2013 04:00 PM

one of my new years resolutions was to quilt/sew two hours a week. I am happy to say that i accomplished this. i finished the table runner (posted elsewhere) and worked on the batik quilt for my daughter. progress is being made!

DebraK 01-06-2013 04:05 PM

yes. I made 6 grocery bags. Looking forward to getting back to quilting.

quiltingb1 01-06-2013 04:15 PM

I finished organizing all of my stash while picking fabrics for a double wedding ring quilt I want to make for my son and daughter-in-laws 10th anniversary. Plus I did some work on a cross stitch design I am working on.

IrishNY 01-06-2013 04:16 PM

YES! I was supposed to travel this weekend and decided against it so had some unexpected time and for once, I made the most of it. I have a top for my daughter's college roomate almost finished (pictures will be coming); I washed the fabrics for two quilts and have the strips cut for one and some of the pieces cut for the other, and I picked out fabrics for a baby quilt and it is in the washer as I type this. Even better, I used only stash fabric so I am feeling pretty virtuous about that. If only every weekend was so productive. lol

auntpiggylpn 01-06-2013 04:26 PM

I didn't sew or quilt anything this weekend. Actually, I haven't sewn anything since right before Christmas. I am cleaning and organizing my sewing area. Okay, I am really only giving it a half hearted attempt!!! I did cut some of my scraps into 2 1/2" strips, 2 1/2" squares and 5" squares today but alas, that was also a half hearted attempt. Just not feeling quilting motivated right now. . .

EllieGirl 01-06-2013 04:47 PM

I'm making a quilt with HST. I completed sewing all of them together in rows. Now my next step is to sew the rows together. Hopefully I can finish that tomorrow. I did go buy the backing and batting!

sewnsewer2 01-06-2013 04:52 PM

I am repairing a quilt for a customer and was working on it today. I repaired 25 holes and have a binding to do yet.

hopetoquilt 01-06-2013 04:54 PM

I finished a baby quilt top and part of the mystery train. I also just got an accuquilt so I cut lots of 5" squares. I know people like having large stashes but having a lot makes me nervous so I plan to use up all my fabric scraps by February!

redvette54 01-06-2013 04:54 PM

Yes, I worked on my MIL's warm wishes quilt, made 2 blocks for a string quilt, trying to use up scraps and also spent some time on a Bow Tucks purse I'm making for a friend.

franc36 01-06-2013 05:06 PM

I didn't spend as much time quilting as I had planned; but I did finish a machine appliqué block I had started earlier, made the 2013 Craftsy BOM for Jan, and did the sashing on blocks for a quilt top that I hope to finish tomorrow.

Just wondering, would this be an antique or old quilt? My dsil left one with me to patch up for him and I have been stymied as to how to accomplish this. Can you offer any suggestions? it has lots of torn places, holes, and needs new binding also. Any help would be so appreciated. Thanks!

No sewing, taking meds for the flu, cold, crud, whatever...it is so-o-o miserable. I hate being sick. Glad to see others being productive.

MissSongbird 01-06-2013 05:11 PM

No sewing for me! I've been getting ready to head back to school on Monday.

Sunnie 01-06-2013 05:12 PM

I was able to do lots of stuff this weekend. After reading "Embrace Yourself" here on the board I went on a straightening up binge and made some decent progress. I quilted my third QFK on my Christmas present frame. Got my husband's quilt top 2/3s done. Just 5 more rows to put together and then some borders. Lastly I worked on a backpack for me. It is almost finished which is good as I am traveling next weekend.

Jingle 01-06-2013 05:16 PM

I finished up my first quilt for this year and started putting together pieces I had cut up last Dec. I ended up with enough pieces for three quilts, different sizes, two different patterns. Same colors. I sew about every evening and on weelends while I do laundry and cleaning.

ontheriver 01-06-2013 05:24 PM

I cut lots of blades for a Dresden plate quilt, put 4 plates together, then I read NYPD Red by Patterson as I got it from the library and it is only 5 day checkout. Oh, almost forgot, did the laundry and vacuumed the house. Will sew tomorrow, kid finally goes back to school and I will have free time.

Pam B 01-06-2013 05:26 PM

Well, I need to cut and attach the borders for 2 tops as the long-arm lady will be ready for them in a few days. Because I absolutely hate to cut things out, I did nothing at all. I spent this afternoon curled up with my flannel raggy quilt and a novel. I also took a long nap. I head back to the classroom tomorrow....hope I don't oversleep!

quiltingme 01-06-2013 05:38 PM

Get well soon!!!

I finished a rag quilt. Then I started purging my quilting material.

patchsamkim 01-06-2013 05:54 PM

Didn't do any sewing...but did do some sorting...trying to clean out some items I don't need anymore in preparation for hopefully moving in a few months. Hard to do. I took down Christmas decorations today, and do have a box of items I can let go of....like, but don't love. Also went through my shoes and came up with 6 pairs I really don't wear so they are going to go, and some clothes that don't fit, and that I don't wear. Hardest for me is to let go of any of my sewing items.

I wish I had a glass ball I could look in and see the future home where I would live so I would know how much room I will have and what kind of storage area so I had a better idea of what I could keep. Have to sell house first, selling "as is" and hope it will sell pretty fast once I am ready to put it on the market (my goal is March 1st).

Won't be getting much sewing done for the next few months, but hoping once moved and settled into a new place, that I will be able to sew on a more regular basis again...would love to do at least 30 minutes a day during the week, and a couple of hours each day on the weekend.

joyce888 01-06-2013 05:56 PM

Started a sampler quilt, got three blocks done.

yep I understand. Tried that yesterday and just Became frustrated and just gave up for the day. Just relax and try again another day.

happylab 01-06-2013 06:19 PM

No, but I did make progress. I put 6 blocks together for the mayhem mystery quilt. Will finish later this week.
Also pinned the binding on my Neb quilt. Again I will finish later in the week. Wanting to catch up on mystery quilt from this board. Planned on setting up another quilt top to quilt, didn't get that done either. I figure there is always tomorrow or later in the week to complete my projects.

mighty 01-06-2013 06:25 PM

Fighting a little cold but managed to get two boarders cut and on the quilt top I am working on.

Keep me informed if you will on how this goes. We are planning on downsizing big time next yr or two. I have no big attachments to anything but my machines as far as the household stuff. I do not want to part with any of thm and like you not sure where or how much room we will have at this point in our next house. Sounds like it is going to be a bird house listening to my dh. Ok, but not leaving without my machines::)

Mariposa 01-06-2013 06:26 PM

Didn't do any sewing, but did do a fair amount of sorting and re-organizing. Along with some house cleaning, and have several bags loaded to go to the thrift shop. Did get some cutting accomplished as well. :)

maminstl 01-06-2013 07:25 PM

I am reading the board while waiting for a quilt that I just finished is running through the laundry. Started working on it about a week before Christmas and had a nice Sunday afternoon handsewing the binding. Can't wait to see how it looks, and excited to decide what to make next. I think a quick dog coat for my skinny little hound, then on to my next quilt!

francie yuhas 01-06-2013 08:25 PM

I had 2cups of coffee, and organized my sewing stuff into bins..put all the '" friends in the same bin, sorted, folded, redid until my boogered up ankle just stopped me. I'm pretty sore, but it's now tolerable. I'm still overwhelmed by my scraps, and since I heard about " crumb quilts " ,more so. Oh well.

craftygal63 01-06-2013 08:53 PM

I've been working setting up my new sewing room, refolding fabric, flipping through quilting magazines and downloading patterns. Cut, laid out, and finished a quilt top. Now that I see and touch it...I thnk it needs something EXTRA. Thinking about some applique or yo-yo flowers...tomorrow.

GrannieAnnie 01-06-2013 09:49 PM

Finished up 4 more shopping bags (cut from pants)

Made about 10 little travel purses, the kind you put a couple things in and wear over your shoulder close to your side. Out of the scraps of the pants legs from shopping bags. Saw it on---------------Quilting Arts????????????? Actually, it's a good use for the billions of zippers I've inherited along the way

I managed to waste a completely good Sunday by sleeping in, then playing on this computer. :(

I did get to do some sewing this past weekend. I'm working on repair my DD's baby quilt. It wasn't easy but I finally got all the mending done on the quilt, now I have to put a new binding on it and I'll be done. Then I can start a sewing project for me that I have put off for a couple of months.

ckcowl 01-07-2013 02:46 AM

finished quilting the second wool (backyard gathering) quilt, made & machine stitched the first side of the bindings on both of them-started the hand stitching side on one;
made 20 appliqued blocks for new quilt- sashing strips between each- machine started (messing up) went back to bindings
worked on hooked rug when was tired of stitching binding
measured- got ready to load next quilt needing quilted- found my backing is just a tad too small....& i don't really like it anyway- set that aside-went back to bindings- realized forgot the labels- made them- attached the first one...
today- plan to finish bindings so i can get those 2 quilts into the mail & be done with them- maybe play around with new appliqued quilt---go through scraps- try to pull something together for a new scrap quilt.

NanaCindyLou 01-07-2013 03:31 AM

pulled out the stash to try to organize. stash now stacked on the bed, desk, cabinet as i tried to think how to sort & store so that i can find it....finished one block for a table runner....had tension (bobbin?) problem and then tension problem (me)...surely hope to be more productive this week....

Sleeping in was no waste. We all need to do that sometimes. I was all set for doing an afternoon of machine quilting on a Christmas project that wasn't finished.

[If I put it away to finish by next Christmas, it won't get done so I thought I'd get it done now.]

Well I was having a great time until the top thread jammed in the bobbin area. Had to try to remove the walking foot and needle so the backing wouldn't tear. So I sacrificed my new needle, broke it then finally succeeded in removing the foot. Finally yanked the piece far enough to clip the thread. Backing unharmed. Cleaned out the bobbin area, got the machine set up again and it was time to put up everything. DRATS. One wasted sewing moment. Some of you accomplished so much!
