So that's why I was soooo tired this morning.

dotlette 12-17-2010 06:09 PM

I have learned alot from all of you on this post. I have been up many a nights also. I love you all

montanajan 12-17-2010 06:12 PM

Great post! I'm a newbie to this site, but know already I'm going to love it - quilters are the best people.
And, BTW, thanks for not waking all of us as "we" spent the night quilting!

montanajan 12-17-2010 06:15 PM

Please tell me about your best friend, Mr. Basting Spray - not yet acquainted & must meet him.

jellyrollnut 12-17-2010 07:09 PM

I just bought some basting spray today. Have not used it yet but after reading all the posts I was so impressed and I knew it was something that I would not be able to live without. Now to get something done so I can use it if I stay off the comoputer long enough.

franie 12-17-2010 07:11 PM

That was a fun night and glad you found all your solutions.

omak 12-17-2010 07:12 PM

awww ... shucks! <g> You would have done the same for us! It is the only thing "civilized" people can do.
What a great story! So glad that you are having good success on your quilting adventure.
Having been "online" for more than a decade, I can say with great certainty that this is one of the finest information boards on the net ...
another cool feature is the chat room ... there is almost someone there all of the time, and those chatters seem to love to problem solve - - I have even had them help me with one of my dogs' mental problem ...
Just a very good board, and you did a good thing by letting everyone know how helpful they have been! <wave>

First problem I encountered was that I discovered I did not have enough fabric for my backing. So, I rushed over to the computer, did a search here for pieced backings, got some great ideas from you, and pieced my backing to my liking.

Then, I found that the piece of Warm & Natural batting I had was not wide enough. (are you seeing a common theme here? Note to self: buy extra!) No problem, searched again, found out how you have pieced backing together, followed your instructions & my batting was perfect.

Then, ready to start sandwiching my quilt top, batting, and backing, I searched again, made note of your tips and techniques, and armed with my can of Basting Spray (my new best friend!), I basted my quilt together! Easy peasy! What was I so afraid of?

Tonight I will be doing the quilt stitching & binding, so stop on by if you would like to quilt with me again. Hopefully I will have some pictures posted on Friday.

So, thank you for being there with me last night. Oh, and in case you didn't realize it, you pulled an all nighter. We were so into quilting that we didn't go to bed until 4am!

Your mail hit the nail right on the head! You have all been so helpful to me- the last quilt that I quilted myself came out so much better with all of your help. Thanks everyone!

kwiltkrazy 12-17-2010 07:22 PM

All nighter for you too? I am glad everyone was so helpful to you, they are great here, and even funny sometimes(lol). I know the banter on here encourages me a lot of the time.

sharoney 12-17-2010 07:22 PM

If you're still sewing tonight, I'll be there!

M.I.Late 12-17-2010 07:48 PM

This is soooo true. There is a plethora of information here. We've got some of the best here. Even the newbies come up with great ideas sometimes. That's why it's so nice that new quilters come along all the time. New ideas - new ways of doing things. Get some pictures up - anxious to see it.

DonnaB 12-17-2010 08:05 PM

I had a great time quilting last night, and hope I can keep my eyes open tonight, let's do it again. Thank you

Annz 12-17-2010 08:48 PM

Yea we all work together in our minds.

QuiltnCowgirl 12-17-2010 08:55 PM

LOL - I've sooo enjoyed reading everyone's replies. What a fun group of people. I am sewing again tonight. Ready to sew the binding on. Planning to do the handsewing on the binding tomorrow while accompanying my aunt as she drives a few hours north of here to pick up her granddaughter for the weekend. Figure I can do the handsewing on the binding and we can chat while she drives. So I won't have pictures today, but definitely tomorrow afternoon when we get back!

Don't go away, the light still is on, lots of quilting to finish for Christmas, coffee & tea for those who want it, and apparently, lots of company to keep us awake while we quilt the night away!

IBQUILTIN 12-17-2010 09:51 PM

Sounds like we had a real good time.

Been bindings quilts for customers for three nights now until 4 AM...took a break to rest my back tonight and now need to get back to bindings again...only two more for tonight so looks like a 6 AM night for me.....have fun and turn out the lights when you go to bed

QuiltnCowgirl 12-18-2010 12:01 AM

Just finished the machine sewing part of putting my binding on. Nothing left now but the hand sewing part. It went on fairly easy, again, thanks to all of the tips I got here from all of you. I've got the quilt bagged up, along with a little sewing kit, so I can hand sew in the car tomorrow while on my road trip with my Aunt.

I don't know about you folks, but I'm tired. I've had a total of 6 hours of sleep in the last 2 days. I'm turning off the lights for tonight and going to bed. See you tomorrow!

A method of attaching binding on without pinning. I followed this tutorial that had been mentioned in another thread.

Isn't this quilting board the best? So glad I found it, as it is my favorite site to be. And it obviously helped you out as it has me.

cowgirlquilter 12-19-2010 10:23 AM

Hey there friend,

I have to tell you you have inspired me........
I have tons of questions and to tell you the truth, it is this message board that has been the main support for a newbie like me.......
glad to know that true support and friendship exists :-P

I am joining the party tonight-for sure.
I FINALLY finished the quilt I have made for my daughter, and can't wait to show my new friends.
Since we are "for-reals" neighbors, we will have to meet so that we can share our projects, cowgirl stuff, and smiles.
"See ya" tonight as we party and quilt together!!!

This is so true! I have not yet finished a quilt without posting a question and getting the information I needed right then.

2livesdown7togo 12-19-2010 05:17 PM

Can't tell you how many times I've pulled an all-nighter. Even had times when I tried to sleep once or twice only to get up again and finish projects I'd been avoiding.

And all the answers are in here ;)

thegypsy1968 12-20-2010 05:04 AM

That was one of the coolest posts I have read!! It made me tear up! Thanks for sharing..I can't wait to see the finished project..I knew I felt tired for a reason today..giggles..Blessings to you

I love the way you told this story. It was so interesting and what a sweet personality you have. I too have been there, done that with these ladies and gents.

I call myself a self-learner, but really I have these fellow quilters to guide me too. Can't wait to see the picture, hopefully Friday. Sounds like a plan!!!!!!

hpylady 01-25-2011 10:32 PM

Oh my goodness, I just went back one page to read rest of post and I see you have already completed the quilt and posted. What a knuckle head I am, I'm responding to an old post. I got behind on my quilting board newsletter and saved bunches till I can read them all. But nice job. You, we, all did good didn't we?

carolaug 01-30-2011 03:07 AM
