I've been hemming and hawing all day as to whether I should unsew the fmq on this mini tree of life. I was thinking that I'll just find a red marker to color the white threads. After all, this won't be washed. What say y'all?

I missed staying in the white space

If its permanent ink it will work.

loves_2_quilt 10-22-2011 03:42 PM

Looks fine to me. I use the 25 mile rule...if you hang it out and drive by it 25 mph and don't see the mistake then it is not there, if you can see it then fix the mistake.

meemersmom 10-22-2011 03:42 PM

I have a set of about 3 dozen different colored Sharpies for just this very thing. You can even wash after using them and the color stays. I say go for it!!

thimblebug6000 10-22-2011 03:43 PM

I keep my Pigma pens right beside me & they've been used ALOT but more when I miss stitching "in the ditch"

Ditto to the above! Go the permanent red pen route unless you're planning on putting the piece in a show/competition. Then.. I might tug it out.

I agree!

Crqltr 10-22-2011 03:45 PM

I "cheat" with pens all the time! Have not had the quilt police at my door yet...

wvhill22 10-22-2011 03:47 PM

you would be surprised at what others don't see. I think sometimes we are hard on ourselves. It would bug me too

ube quilting 10-22-2011 03:49 PM

The distance theme may not work on a mimi quilt 'cause people get up close to look at mini quilts, at least I do. I would have to repair it 'cause a close look would show up those stitches, even if colored over. This probably isn't what you want to hear but on a small quilt every little glitch shows.
peace

Jennifer22206 10-22-2011 03:51 PM

I'd use a pen too.

Tartan 10-22-2011 04:56 PM

Try a test sample to see if you can match the red with a marker. If it was black, brown, blue...the darker colours you'd have no trouble getting a match. Other colours can look worse if they don't match.

leatheflea 10-22-2011 05:10 PM

I've done it with black, It'll even go through the wash if its permanant!

3incollege 10-22-2011 05:19 PM

just leave it the way it is.

Painiacs 10-22-2011 05:29 PM

Never thought of using a pen! Have to remember that! Small mistakes no big deal!!

SueSew 10-22-2011 05:42 PM

I say get a few markers and practice. Sally Collins has approved this for stray threads showing and she is wicked fussy, so it should be fine.
please show us how it came out!

Me too - I use colored sharpies to fix those little mistakes. (And it works great!)

Bonbonary 10-22-2011 05:47 PM

I've done this before with quilting and embroidery. Works fine.

Candace 10-22-2011 06:20 PM

It's not a big area at all. I'd pick it out and redo, personally.

justlooking 10-23-2011 03:05 AM

Great idea!

MaryKatherine 10-23-2011 03:29 AM

I do that a lot.
MK

Latrinka 10-23-2011 04:32 AM

Color it!

sueisallaboutquilts 10-23-2011 05:27 AM

No way would I pick that out. I'd either leave it or color it.

jaciqltznok 10-23-2011 05:41 AM

for the love of INK......gotta keep those pigma pens handy!!

OR the Fabrico markers from Tsukineko ink!

QuiltnNan 10-23-2011 06:03 AM

thanks, all, for your advice. i hope to finish this up soon

I would hate to be thought of as the quilt police  - I'm afraid for me, I would have to rip out and redo. I have a quilt right beside me here that I did in FMQ and I did a TON of ripping out, and I'm so glad I did - I absolutely LOVE it. C9P

Peckish 10-23-2011 08:16 AM

Oh heck yeah. Just be very careful and use sparingly - my experience is that the thread wicks up the ink, so give it little baby dabs until you get it the way you want it.

Drew 10-23-2011 08:49 AM

I'd have to take it out and requilt it.

johnnietate1225 10-23-2011 09:19 AM

Either way, I love the pattern - actually, the pen fix sounds great to me - great to learn about this trick!

Shirley41 10-23-2011 09:42 AM

I like the idea of driving past at 25 mph...if you don't see it ...it's not there LOL

Tweety2911 10-23-2011 10:36 AM

It would drive me crazy until I ripped out the section and corrected it.

MadQuilter 10-23-2011 10:39 AM

You look at it so close that you will see every stitch that goes off. Once the quilt is finished and washed, you may not notice it. Accept your work in progress - that's what I tell myself.

jansquiltn 10-23-2011 12:52 PM

We weren't ment to be perfect!

Same here

MargeD 10-23-2011 03:28 PM

Permanent marker - absolutely.

QuiltswithConvicts 10-23-2011 04:04 PM

Don't forget to heat set it! I do that all the time!

grangerite 10-23-2011 04:19 PM

I was at a quilt show and one of the quilts that won a ribbon had a boo boo. Leave it

pdriggs 10-23-2011 04:37 PM

My mother-in-law always said "Who can tell on a galloping horse". I suspect that is why colored markers are made. I have used the while doing stitch in a ditch, when the ditch wandered a bit.

fred liniger 10-23-2011 07:34 PM

it just goes to prove no one is perfect. The choice is your's. Do what ever makes you happy. It's your Quilt

haircut2 10-23-2011 08:32 PM

I go with coloring it in!
