I've been hemming and hawing all day as to whether I should unsew the fmq on this mini tree of life. I was thinking that I'll just find a red marker to color the white threads. After all, this won't be washed. What say y'all?
I missed staying in the white space |
If its permanent ink it will work.
Looks fine to me. I use the 25 mile rule...if you hang it out and drive by it 25 mph and don't see the mistake then it is not there, if you can see it then fix the mistake.
I have a set of about 3 dozen different colored Sharpies for just this very thing. You can even wash after using them and the color stays. I say go for it!!
I keep my Pigma pens right beside me & they've been used ALOT but more when I miss stitching "in the ditch"

Ditto to the above! Go the permanent red pen route unless you're planning on putting the piece in a show/competition. Then.. I might tug it out. |

I "cheat" with pens all the time! Have not had the quilt police at my door yet...
you would be surprised at what others don't see. I think sometimes we are hard on ourselves. It would bug me too
The distance theme may not work on a mimi quilt 'cause people get up close to look at mini quilts, at least I do. I would have to repair it 'cause a close look would show up those stitches, even if colored over. This probably isn't what you want to hear but on a small quilt every little glitch shows.
peace |
I'd use a pen too.
Try a test sample to see if you can match the red with a marker. If it was black, brown, blue...the darker colours you'd have no trouble getting a match. Other colours can look worse if they don't match.
I've done it with black, It'll even go through the wash if its permanant!
just leave it the way it is.
Never thought of using a pen! Have to remember that! Small mistakes no big deal!!
I say get a few markers and practice. Sally Collins has approved this for stray threads showing and she is wicked fussy, so it should be fine.
please show us how it came out! |

Me too - I use colored sharpies to fix those little mistakes. (And it works great!) |
I've done this before with quilting and embroidery. Works fine.
It's not a big area at all. I'd pick it out and redo, personally.
Great idea!
I do that a lot.
MK |
Color it!
No way would I pick that out. I'd either leave it or color it.
for the love of INK......gotta keep those pigma pens handy!!
OR the Fabrico markers from Tsukineko ink! |
thanks, all, for your advice. i hope to finish this up soon

Oh heck yeah. Just be very careful and use sparingly - my experience is that the thread wicks up the ink, so give it little baby dabs until you get it the way you want it.
I'd have to take it out and requilt it.
Either way, I love the pattern - actually, the pen fix sounds great to me - great to learn about this trick!
I like the idea of driving past at 25 mph...if you don't see it ...it's not there LOL
It would drive me crazy until I ripped out the section and corrected it.
You look at it so close that you will see every stitch that goes off. Once the quilt is finished and washed, you may not notice it. Accept your work in progress - that's what I tell myself.
We weren't ment to be perfect!

Permanent marker - absolutely.
Don't forget to heat set it! I do that all the time!
I was at a quilt show and one of the quilts that won a ribbon had a boo boo. Leave it
My mother-in-law always said "Who can tell on a galloping horse". I suspect that is why colored markers are made. I have used the while doing stitch in a ditch, when the ditch wandered a bit.
it just goes to prove no one is perfect. The choice is your's. Do what ever makes you happy. It's your Quilt
I go with coloring it in!
