Who knew that I was a real quilter before I even knew this board existed. I used some of these secrets without knowing they were dirty little secrets of so many!
|
Oh. It is time for me to get off of here and get some things done. Darn>>>>>>>and I was just getting to the good stuff.
|
Since I joined this board, (happy day that I did), I have been adding "dirty little secrets" aka my bookmaks at a alarming rate from all the great people and their stuff :!:
|
That is a good tip...
|
Those aren't dirty little secrets, they are how things get done in the real world by frail, humble, and occasionally venal humans, and they apply to anything you can think of which is paid or unpaid work.
Ever NOT got the Q-tip out to clean the dust from around the sash lock or the corners of the window sash muntins? Ever filed something in the no-one-will-look-at-this-again-in-my-lifetime pile? Ever forgot to dust on top of the door casing? Ever rounded 49 cents UP? Ever pretended you forgot your oil change as a few hundred or more? miles overdue? Ever hit the DELETE button on an email you may not need to answer right away? Ever NOT RECEIVED that phone message from Aunt Tilda wanting to know why you don't have a brood of kids yet? Ever heard of the law of diminishing returns?       |
Geez never thought of them as dirty little secrets but more of quilter's survival techniques. I agree this board is great.
|
Thank you for starting this post. It is great. I'm sure we all have some "dirty little secrets" we do and don't even remember until we do them again. Quilters are a unique group of people. MOST of us play well with others, we love to share, we are compassionate, we have a good sense of humor, we love to gab,and we love fabric. Of course we need to remember there are exceptions to every rule. I also love this board. Great people here!!!!
|
I love it all!
|
My husband told me to get my own email address because our joint one was getting crammed with "quilt stuff". So now I have a "real" email and a "quilt" email... this is said from his vantage point! :)
|
It's called working smarter, not harder!
|
NOT dirty secrets, creative solutions~!!

I love this board too !!! There's actually quite a bit of interesting information there - like how many posts in the past 24 hours (7756). |
I made a paper-pieced wall hanging for my sister 2 years ago. On a couple of the seams, I didn't have enough seam allowance, and the seams popped open when it was quilted. Because it was a frog/pond scene, I bought some iron-on appliques of ladybugs and butterflies to place over the ragged seams.
The effect was perfect, my sister loves her wall hanging, so it was a win-win. |

I think if they were really dirty little secrets we wouldn't be sharing them in a public forum. On the other hand, that seems to be the one of the main purposes of facebook, and look how successful it is.

I see you are from Maryland, I'm on the Eastern Shore of Md.
I think we all have some secrets on how we put our quilts together...I know I do. |

Do we really have secrets? The great thing about this board is that we all share our "secrets".

I just did a "Dirty Little Secret" yesterday. I'm making pot holders and learning to do free hand quilting on the machine. When I finished quilting the first one, turned it over and straight down the middle, diagonally, There was an over lap of fabric a quarter inch deep. I was mortified. So------I turned the excess over to one side, stitched it down, then sent to the other side and stitched to match.
Geeeese am I dumb. |
"Secrets"? In quilting we call them "Tips", simple sematics.
|
Imagine the secrets our quilting "foremothers" must have had! I can't help but wonder what they'd think of the internet and our Little Board.

Fun post. J J
