I came here to the QB thinking I was going to gain a wealth of knowledge about quilting and everything that goes along with it....Wow! Am I surprised...I've have read, alot, but I'm sure, not all, of the dirty little secrets that quilters have in order to finish a quilt and have it look fantastic. When I started quilting, which was just recently, I looked at the quilts on just about every website I could find and saw how beautiful the quilts were that other people made, I said to myseld, "Self, this is something I think you can do." Sooo, off to the fabric store I went. I signed up for a class, I bought fabric (the good stuff), I bought supplies (the name brand, good ones), I practice daily, for hours at a time. And NOW, well, heck, I'm learning that I really didn't need to go to all that expense. There are secrets out there for just about every little cotton pickin' problem a quilter can have. Holy Moly, where are the quilt police when you need them???? Now, I'm not complaining because secretly, between you and me, I've written down every one of those little dirty secrets I can find...just in case, one day, I might need to use a secret or two. Ladies and Gents, right about now, I'm ROLF. You people are a hoot. I love the QB! You ladies and gents out there, you keep up the good work because my notebook is always open. If you have any more of those dirty little secrets, like hiding an imperfection, or painting your over lapping stitches with fabric markers or changing a stitch pattern to cover up a stitch line gone wrong, you just keep them coming. If you want to add some of them right here after this post, please, feel free to do so. I love it here and I love quilting! ! !

Patti, you are too funny. But you are right about those dirty little secrets. I have learned so much just reading this board. Sunnie
"SECRETS" Quilters have "SECRETS"?
LOLOLOL..I love this place! ! !
I love it! I love everything you said! Now remember not to let those dirty little secrets out to non quilters, they don't need to know what we do to make our quilts look good. The quilt police are there just to make themselves feel good because their work is lacking and they don't have our secrets.
LMAO! Now go hide that list! |
Dirty little secrets????? And here I just thought I was being inventive.
me too!! this board is a hoot. there are lots of things I have learned just by reading the posts. I bookmark the "Dirty little Secrets" I want to remember.
Funny. I love this board.

I was telling my DD about using a glue stick when doing bindings and she just looked at me with the "deer in the headlights" eyes. Had to tell her that I do whatever it takes to make things happen easier and faster. We both laughed and now she knows on of my secrets. I am hoping to be able to pass on many of my secrets about quilting soon. She has just decided that she wants to learn and I am thrilled.
Love it.
Ohhhhh Re-designing is what it is called, right????

There are no mistakes...only creative license! :)
I have learned so much here! I love it too. Just keep those "secrets" coming!
Everyone needs a "dirty little secret"! A good friend borrowed a quilt magazine from me and kept it a long time. She returned it with my birthday gift she had made from the book where I had put a little sticky note "beautiful". She pointed out her secret- some markings did not come off so she did a fancy stitch over them and it looks great.
Mine is using glue alot and quilting by check!
You're not the only one with a notebook full of "Quilter's Dirty Little Secrets", Mine is organized by a Table of Content. I love these quilters and their great ideas. I think I will rename my file - The Quilters Dirty Little Secrets.
I love the QB...........We have so many little secrets. Too many to list! Glad you are on board!
yep..isn't great to know we are no different than the great Chef's who screw up and call it a NEW dish, the hairdressers that mess up a cut and call it a NEW style, the painter who changes his mind and paints over his original thoughts...
we are inspirational, innovative and wonderful! Glad you found us!! |
welcome to our little corner of the world ~ and join in the fun. We all have secrets, we just don't always point them out... unless, they can save another quilter some sanity! :D
Gotta love quilters!
This board is fantastic and one of the best things is that everyone shares their "dirty little secrets"!
ROFL again. I have recipes I won't even give to my very bestest, most favorite sister, so you know these secrets are going anywhere, lolol.....

What you mean my humility block?
We can only hope that when the Quilt Police come knocking at your door and wave bolts of beautiful fabric in front of you....you don't rat us out!! :|
This is where I start my day; coffee and QB. DH is over there reading what's wrong with the world and I am here learning all the "good" stuff. I love all those who make the QB such a great and POSITIVE place. Here's inspiration and help and plenty of both.
I think the message board should have a topic -
Quilters Dirty Little Secrets - and that you should publish your secrets to it and each person should publish their secrets to quilting. These will probably shock those who have no imagination and who cannot do anything unless it is the way it has been done for the last 100 years. No offence. Love this Board missbelle |
I have learned so much from this site. It is just like talking to a group of friends with common interests.
I love the elmers washaway school glue, use it all the time for them mug rug bindings. Just put little dabs along edge fold binding over and iron dry. Sew it down and and wash works wonders when holding binding in place.
These are actually termed technique alternatives!!!!
Shhhhhh don't tell. It 's just between the 5000 of us!
I love this board!!! I find it a wonderful way to start (and end) the day -- and times in between. The information is great -- better than books since you can ask questions if you are confused. I like the idea of a document with a table of contents -- mine are in a bunch of different documents with different names, but I should condense them (however, that would take time I should be quilting).
