My suggestion would be to go with more of a fabric contrast like the black/blue but then do different blocks with one consistent fabric in it..say like a black or a red to carry it out...a controlled scrappy look. Either way, looks like a great quilt for a guy/boy!

Usually a disappearing 4 patch block consists of only two different fabrics. Like one print and one solid. Do you think it would work with four different prints?

I like the one on right with black.
Of course you can use whatever you want in it, but in the end, it may look like a scrappy and not so much a DP4, that's all. As long as you like it, all is good. |
i like the black and blue it is a great quilt i may look for some fabrics like that my hubby would love it...

Oh, the second one, which I like a lot! In the first one, the prints get lost.

There is a tutorial on the Missouri Star Quilt Shop for a multi-colored D9P. It works up well for a scrappy.

Yes, I know, thank you. Love Missouri star Quilt shop! I was trying it with what I have. Trying it now much smaller and using what I had planned for my border now for my repeat solid instead of the white. :)

Looks like the four different fabrics work fine, and what's not to like about a different approach. The fabrics are all busy. The four different fabrics don't look any busier to me. Either way, HAVE FUN!

The white looks neat, but the placement seems a bit off for my tastes. If you're happy with it, go for it, but, personally, I'd transpose the first and third piece from the middle layer on each so that you have alternating colours wrapping around each block. As it is, it looks too bisected to me.
I'd rearrange it like that. |
I like the black one better. The other one seems a bit busy for me.

Thank you for that. I agree. The way you cut a D4P you have to place your fabrics where you want them before you sew. I think just using two fabrics is the way to go. I just couldn't like it so I am now doing a D9P AGAIN. I love that block, but I really was looking forward to doing something different. I think I will still have enough left over to try it again. It will look like what you suggested but not with white. Thank you so much. It's nice to know others understand.
Still having fun, Darla |
