Disappearing 4 patch

Usually a disappearing 4 patch block consists of only two different fabrics. Like one print and one solid. Do you think it would work with four different prints?

Geri B 02-27-2013 09:37 AM

try one and see......it might be very busy, but then lately that is the trend.....

Tartan 02-27-2013 09:47 AM

Sure it will, just make sure there is enough contrast in colour or value for the pattern to show up.

McDarla 02-27-2013 09:50 AM

Thank you both!

Which is better?

jetayre 02-27-2013 10:52 AM

Like the one with black. It gives more contrast.

BrendaK 02-27-2013 10:53 AM

Very cute. My eye is drawn to the black/blue block. Please show the finished quilt. BrendaK

azwendyg 02-27-2013 10:54 AM

I really favor the black and blue one also.

McDarla 02-27-2013 10:55 AM

Thank you.
I have 12 assorted in this print. My question is .. Is two prints better or do you think four prints in one block is ok?

quiltlady1941 02-27-2013 11:02 AM

I have seen it make with a charm pack and that has a lot of different fabric in it, so yes I think it would look great...try it and see how you like it and go from there... good luck

McDarla 02-27-2013 11:08 AM

You all are super or junior members... I need to sign in more often. It's nice to get opinions. Thanks... :)

wolph33 02-27-2013 11:12 AM

the 2nd one is more eye catching

Quiltngolfer 02-27-2013 12:18 PM

I like the black and blue one. If you have 4 fabrics, you could make alternating blocks. Use 2 colors in each block. Does that make sense?

McDarla 02-27-2013 12:34 PM

Yes. I think that is hat Ill end up doing... Thanks! :)

Fuzzykittenbutt 02-27-2013 12:36 PM

Yep, I like the one with the black best too and I think it looks fine with those four prints. Keep us posted! :-)

Boonedox 02-27-2013 02:05 PM

That is some super cute fabric. It's going to be cute no matter which one you use. Personally I like the black one as well but I'm way to matchy matchy sometimes. Enjoy your project!

charsuewilson 02-27-2013 04:13 PM

The one with 4 fabrics would look better if the two darker fabrics were diagonally across from one another.

I like the 2 fabrics better the way the two blocs are shown.

Phannie1 02-27-2013 04:15 PM

I like both.

sharoney 02-27-2013 04:49 PM

For just one block, I like the blue and black- but for an entire quilt, the one with more fabrics could look great, too- hard to judge with just one block.

joyce888 02-27-2013 05:11 PM

The blue and black has more contrast, so for me it's the best.

mucky 02-27-2013 05:13 PM

Another vote for black

McDarla 02-27-2013 05:27 PM

Thanks all! There's no going back now. I have about 12 patients total and. Decided to go with only two prints per block. I sure hope I like it. It is or my father in law. Hope he likes it. Ill post final photo in a couple of days. Hopefully we won't lose power. :)

Mariposa 02-27-2013 05:33 PM

Both blocks are nice, but the black/blue one has more contrast. Your fabrics are terrific!!

mummadee 02-28-2013 05:58 AM

Definitely #2 with the black

solstice3 02-28-2013 06:11 AM

hey, it works!!

LenaBeena 02-28-2013 07:15 AM

The blue and black block is more attractive---to me. The four patterns appears too busy---to me. :)

bunniequilter 02-28-2013 07:16 AM

Black one is really nice

sharin'Sharon 02-28-2013 08:46 AM

The black/blue one gets my vote. Actually, I like the disappearing 9 patch design better than the d4p and I've used 3 different fabrics for it, but varied the blocks with 12 different fabrics. Thanks for sharing and will look forward to YOUR finished quilt.

lpsewing 02-28-2013 08:47 AM

I like the contrast w/the black

Carol34446 02-28-2013 10:21 AM

The black one stands out more, but it could just be the contrasting colors, both are lovely. Let us see the finished quilt.

I haven cut hem all, but here are a few examples. I like the ones that the second fabric is closer to a solid. Do the busy blocks take away from quilt?

Thanks for your input. :)

Four prints is distracting. You tend to lose the pattern of the block. I learned this the hard way! I like the blocks best with one print and white, but you can use two prints as long as there is high contrast between them. Otherwise, the block ends up looking like the dog's breakfast.

McDarla 02-28-2013 05:55 PM

I agree and hope that this helps someone who has same question. I tried to add tags.

Examples of disappearing for patch

I am discovering that I prefer solid color and one print, but I had to try...

Jackie R 02-28-2013 06:44 PM

The one with blue and black looks better.

matraina 02-28-2013 07:36 PM

I like the black and blue.

McDarla 02-28-2013 08:03 PM

Gosh! I can't believe it... I think I am actually going to scrap it and do something else. I love the line of fabric though. Great for my FIL. :)

Charming 02-28-2013 09:04 PM

The first thing i looked at was the black one....the contrast is just attractive. The one with more colors would look nice if you use solid sashing between the blocks to break the busyness

wolf3349 02-28-2013 09:22 PM

I like the black one also.
