I think you are talking about the fixion pens, not the purple disapearing ink markers, right? When you iron them, the ink disapears, but what I've heard is that in real cold temps, it comes back...so keep that in mind.

I have used the water soluble graphite pencils and another water soluble blue ink pen...I must say I was nervous about the graphite pencil but it comes right out...I have been happy with both...

Where do you find the Pilot FriXon pens? I looked the other day online and couldn't find any.

The bright pink Frixion pen that I used this afternoon on a med. blue fabric left a white line when it was ironed. It didn't matter on the project I was working on because it was hidden. Always test on your fabric before using it in a quilt.

I got mine at a quilt store on vacation. However, if you go to the pilot pen site, you can order some. They're referred to as an erasable pen, I believe some have found some at an office supply store, but i've not needed to look.

Plain old school chalk works well but, you have to mark as you go or do some remarking.
I will never use the frixon pen again to me it was a waste of money. Yes it will iron out but any change of temp under 42 and the marks come back. I used it to mark a sampler wall hanging for a class. I had ironed it, no marks, put it in a box with my other supplies carried it from the house to the car. When I arrived at the class the marks were back. I tryed Ironing it out then washed it, then took it out to the car in the same manner, marks came back. I went back to my #2 pencile and a good white eraser. They have never failed me.

A word of caution when using the FriXion pens ... Though I've had great luck with the iron making all disappear. When the item gets very cold (freezing), like left on the car when transporting the ink reappears. Try it on a small piece and put it in the freezer to see. I'm thinking it would be a bummer if used without this knowledge. I do no know yet what happens if washed first but would use with caution

After I posted I saw this thread. I know it is an old thread but though I would try and post here. Has anyone ever used Sew Clean to remove the blue marker? I saw it on a quilting ruler website.

hmmm ... quite pricey.
one description of Sew Clean said it uses citric acid.
so i wonder if lemon juice would work.

i need to keep that in mind.
somewhere around here i have a quilt i had to keep because the frixion didn't wash all the way out.

The firxion pens are on sale today at missouri star abd the shipping is only $2. They work good for me.

The manufacturer of Frixion pens doesn't recommend using them on fabric because it will not wash out without using a special solvent. I prefer the blue pens that you remove with cold water. Always rinse the whole quilt with cold water before washing with detergent or you could end up with brown lines. Those are removable with vinegar, I heard, but have not had that problem.

I used a blue disappearing marker on some towels I was embroidering for my sister (I think Mark B Gone but I am no certain) and they bleached the towels! I was not impressed...
