All the quilts w 3 colors or 3 fabrics are beautiful. It is amazing how different they all look yet they are the same pattern

I just posted a picture and am going to see if I can do it in a Reply, as well as a Start new topic. Okay, I have to try two pictures, just to see if I can do that too.

Thanks |

WOW-would like more detail on how you did that. Have you tried the disappearing 4 patch? It's great in two colors.
Please post how you added those hst to get your quilt. It's stunning. Thanks |

Do you mean with the 4 corners one fabric, the center a different fabric and the 4 middles a diff fabric? That would work. All your blocks would be the same which would be fine, imo

WOW Ladies, WTG they are gorgeous!!!

Yes, I made it with white and two colors of rose and it turned out really nice.

I posted a reply with a picture, don't know where it went. Still trying to learn this new system.
I made one using three colors: white, rose and dark rose... Turned out nicely. |
Hi, this is my first post and I am new to quilting but love the idea of just using 3 colours, can you please tell me what size each of the 9 blocks has to be cut, any advice would be apreciated many thanks.

I did a twisted version with 3 fabrics. After I cut the 9 patches, I added half-square triangles and mixed them in with at least 1 normal D9P block to create different stars. I'll try to attach a picture. I did most of the blocks while on vacation in the summer of 2010 using my old mechanical machine, Martelli Rotary Cutter, small cut & press board and 2 square rulers--6.5" and 12.5". Hubby & the kids fuss when I make them leave extra space to haul my mini, mobile quilt studio but they get over it--LOL.

You can cut them whatever size you like -- this last one I'm working on I made them big - 6 1/2" because that's how wide my ruler is - didn't want to over think it, and I love working with large blocks for quick projects. Just remember that your middle section loses an extra seam allowance - so a total of 1" seam allowances there - so I don't think I'd go any smaller than 2 or 2 1/2".

I've made several, all with 3 colors. The first three are ones I made for my sons' two Christmases ago. The gold is used in all three quilts, and two of them the red and the gold were the same:
Thomas the train for my 10 year old: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1266192591.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1266192593.jpg Lightening McQueen for my 9 year old: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1266192594.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...66192605-1.jpg And Curious George for the 7 year old: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1266192617.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1266192617.jpg I am actually much happier with the baby quilts I made. Using a smaller strip set I think they came out much better than the one's I made for my sons. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z.../d9pboytop.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...11/girlD9p.jpg |
Great quilt, ShilrlinAZ. I am doing one for my great nephew in red, blue, and black - his color choices!

You make as many 9-patches as you need for your top like this: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1294622680.jpg Then you cut the block in half equally horizontally and vertically: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1294622664.jpg Then you have 4 equal pieces. Piece 1 is top left. Piece 2 is top right. Piece 3 is bottom left. And piece 4 is bottom right. WITHOUT TURNING THEM, swap pieces 1 and 4 or pieces 2 and 3, as long as it's the same 2 pieces in every block. It will look like this: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1294622620.jpg Then you just stitch them together: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1294622641.jpg |
