Ladies and gentlemen! I am in 7th heaven! Today, while roaming around in the quilt shop I found a Ditch Quilting Foot for my Janome. I don't know if other machine manuf. have this foot but let me tell you, it's divine! I came home and made up a "quilt"....of about 7" square and put the foot on. I have now quilted the BEST stitch in the ditch seam I've EVER done! No sweat, no wavering, PERFECT! It cost me $19.95 and I will guarantee you, you won't be sorry!!!!

sewjoyce 08-18-2009 04:33 PM

  They ARE great! I have one for my Bernina -- cost me more than $19.95...

renee765 08-18-2009 04:47 PM

I've never heard of this kind of presser foot. It sounds neat. How does it work? Does it keep the needle 'in the ditch'? I have a 'bargain' sewing machine, which probably explains why I don't know about this presser foot.

I have one too for my Janome, but you can't use it with Accufeed so I am kinda bummed about it. I would like to use it but when quilting I want to use accufeed.

Lockeb 08-19-2009 04:35 AM

This is great...
But I have no idea what it looks like <smile>
Could someone please post a picture - I'm going to bring it to my sewing machine repair guy and see if I can pick one up...I really do need this <smile>
Thanks,
Bill

I have one for my Viking and love it. Seems like it would be so easy to stitch a straight line--but not for me. This foot made a big difference.

Thank you so much for the information. I learned something new from this forum again!

Never heard of this foot before but I'm going to see if I can get one for my Viking.

amandasgramma 08-19-2009 06:05 AM

I tried to get back on last night but the system was down!!!!
Here's a link for the Husqvarna stitch in the ditch foot http://husqvarnaviking.com/us/media/...t.pdf/url]LINK
Earlier this week I did a search for "stitch in the ditch", foot -- and found someplace on the web that showed a foot for each type of shaft. I believe you can find one for every sewing machine........somewhere!

King's Daughter 08-19-2009 06:24 AM

I purchased an AcuFeed stitch in the ditch foot for my Elna for $29.99, and it's actually listed as being for the Janome. I was told it fits both brands. Works great! I got it from allbrands.com. I see their website now lists it as fitting Elna as well. I also purchased from them AcuFeed feet for quarter inch (which comes with a marked needle plate), and the Open Toe Satin Stitch. They also have an AcuFeed ruffler (which I did not get).

Here's a link to the foot itself:

King's Daughter, Thank you so much. That is awsome.

janRN 08-19-2009 07:12 AM

Another foot I really like and has made a big difference in my accuracy is the quarter-inch foot. It has a metal side thingy that the fabric butts up against. I had marked the 1/4inch with tape and post-its but for some reason this works great. I think it was $19.99 for my Viking but I'd pay double that now that I can see how much more accurate my seams are.

Esqmommy 08-19-2009 07:13 AM

I have one for my Pfaff, but haven't made the plunge yet for my Bernina.

Iluv2quilt 08-19-2009 08:00 AM

Awesome! I have a Janome, I'd love this foot, where did you get it?

Deb watkins 08-19-2009 08:05 AM

Saw it, love it, gotta get it! I have a Janome dealer just 20 minutes from my house! Next trip out is there!

amandasgramma 08-19-2009 08:21 AM

suzic46 -- I got it at my local Janome dealer! He's in the same shop as the quil shop. That's dangerous, you know. Can't tell you how many times I've gone in to get fabric and have drooled over the expensive machines!!

mytwopals 08-19-2009 09:03 AM

I have one for my Viking. But I don't use it very often any more. I don't do a lot of SID quilting with my DSM, now that I have the mid-arm setup.

Rose Marie 08-19-2009 10:46 AM

The ditch foot has a piece of metal down the middle that keeps it in the ditch..
I love it for sewing the back binding on by sewing in the ditch on the front of the quilt. It keeps me from wandering away from the ditch.

MadQuilter 08-19-2009 11:16 AM

Yep, got one for my Pfaff. It sure helps staying in the Ditch.

That was an excellent find for $19.99!

Sears on-line has generic sewing machine accessories that fit my Viking. But, their walking foot is $25.99 with a quilting bar, a lot less expensive than buying Vikings.
Here's the Sears site if anyone is interested:

SulaBug 08-19-2009 07:09 PM

I also got my "Stitch in the Ditch" foot
from the Sears on-line store. They are
so much thriftier!! I must confess that
"Quiltintime" gave mine to me, as a gift.
Now, how much lees, can you get one than
that? I just love it too.

I believe what you are referring to is a 1/4 inch foot w/guide. It has a plate that keeps you from having the fabric go outside the 1/4 in space, unless you want the guide jutting into your fabric. It's one of those feet that's great, but annoying when you want to do something that doesn't involve a 1/4 inch seam exactly - I find myself having to change it all the time...

deedum 08-19-2009 08:43 PM

OH MY GOSH! I got so excited when I read this post. A SID foot! Wowsers! I got to get one,( I just finished my 2008 shop hop quilt last week , my first real quilt with SID, with my quilting foot)-then I clicked on the picture of SID, I had forgot I even had that. Came with my machine when I bought it. Silly me, I could of use it!!!!!!!!

deedum 08-19-2009 08:44 PM

So what foot do you use for echo stitching? I really should make sure I am using the right one on this lapquilt I am finishing,

mic-pa 08-20-2009 02:51 AM

I have a Janome (actually three of them) and that foot looks like what they call blind hem foot on my machine. Will have to try it next time I stitch in the ditch. Marge

deedum 08-20-2009 03:33 AM

Would the stitch in the ditch foot work when quilting? I used my walking foot because of the thickness.

amandasgramma 08-20-2009 05:57 AM

I haven't tried echo quilting yet. Probably would use the walking foot for that. Others will be able to answer that better.

Yes, the foot DOES look like the blind hem foot for Janome! Odd...they have 2 feet the same with two different names!

I actually tried the foot with 2 pieces of fabric and warm and natural inside. Didn't set it with aligned edges to see if it's better than the walking foot. To me, having the straight stitches in the ditch is more important than the walking foot's advantage. I use spray adhesive and LOTS of pins when I do quilting. So -- it's a toss up!!!!

That looks like the foot that came with my Janome MC4000 for blind hemming. Is it the same, or are there different features to it>? I use the blind hemming foot and it works pretty well. I just have to adjust my needle a smidgin' for it to be centered.

grandmasue 08-20-2009 06:59 AM

I have one for my Kenmore. Works just fine.

Ellis' Granny B 08-20-2009 07:36 AM

Thanks for sharing this info about the quilt in the ditch foot. I too have a hard time making the ditch stitches nice and straight. After your post and someone else posted a picture....Praise the Lord, I have this foot. Can't wait to use it. That is why this site is s-o-o-o valuable!!!

Where did you find it?

june6995 08-20-2009 08:34 AM

I went to look at the link....and by golly, I have a foot exactly like that with my New Home machine 20 years ago. It is the blind hem foot. The blade runs along the folded edge of the hem. Easy to use. And I never knew it had another use. Now we all know. thanks for sharing.

calicocat 08-20-2009 10:29 AM

Does the ditch quilting foot have a part number. Is is called a Ditch Quilting Foot? I a Janome machine. I would love to find that foot.

amandasgramma 08-20-2009 10:31 AM

It's a Janome brand -- called Ditch Quilting Foot. Says Part # 200-341-002. I found it at the Janome sewing machine store......

calicocat 08-20-2009 10:34 AM

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!! I am excited to find one. I shop online often. I live in a rural area and it is an hour to the Janome store. Thanks again
