DNP Questions and Merry Christmas
 

I was gifted with hundreds of precision cut 4" squares in different prints of red and blue with additional squares of white on white print. I have been making them in to 9 patch squares when it hit me that maybe I could try a DNP. The blocks that I have already made are either all red and white or all blue and white. I have watched several tutorials about them but they are always with many different fabrics not two. Can I make a DNP with only two colors? Has anyone made a DNP with only two colors in a block? I have made too many blocks to turn back now. If it won't work I will finish the one I am working on and make it in to a lap quilt then incorporate the other squares into a DNP on the next one. I will appreciate your comments. Merry Christmas everyone.

Since you have a lot, I would just go for it. Make up 4 9 patch blocks, cut them up & rearrange to see if you like them or not. If you don't like it, you can always incorporate it into a back.

I think it would be beautiful in those colors, so forage ahead! There's no "right" color when it comes to DNP.

I made a DNP variation using the tute from the site below. It was easy and would look really nice using your 2 color blocks.

DNP quilts vary greatly in the number of colors/fabrics used and in the placement of the blocks. Your red/blue/white blocks will look super!

Your blocks you can do whatever you like with them. Traditional nine blocks were 4 of one color and five of another color. The center block can also be another color, then you would have 4 blocks of one color and 4 blocks of another with the different color in the center.

If you look under links and other resources there is a thread from yesterday about different D9P's. It is just a few threads from the top.
There were some really nice variations shown. You might get an idea from there. Have fun! That is a lot of squares to deal with!!

I usually use 3 fabric colors for my d9p. I make 4 Dark for the corners from one fabric, 4 light for the four sides from a second fabric, and one focus color for the center block. You could make red and white blocks, and blue and white blocks, cut them into four squares, then before sewing back together swap 2 squares from the red block with 2 squares from the blue block. Was I confusing? Hope not. I like making the d9p quilts and love to experiment.
