First off, my husband is attached to my hip 90% of the time. When I go into the fabric stores (small town but we have 3 fabric shops) the owners love to see "HIM" coming. I would go in and purchase a few items ($10) but with him, I end up with $30-$50 in purchases. Does this happen to you?

Lynn

Murphy 11-29-2010 06:25 AM

It does sometimes :-).

cizzors 11-29-2010 06:28 AM

Yeah but I never complain! :)

raedar63 11-29-2010 06:29 AM

Heck no, mine runs the other way, which is how I like it so he can't complain that I am buying "Stuff I will never use" lol

erstan947 11-29-2010 06:31 AM

Never, My DH would rather have a root canal than go to a fabric shop! If I want to have a good time, I leave him at the house!:)

Patty Patches 11-29-2010 06:48 AM

If dh goes with me he stands and whines about everything,or complains. His favorite saying is"you dont need that" or "why dont you use some of what you;ve got"

oldswimmer 11-29-2010 06:50 AM

Wish I had that problem!

sahm4605 11-29-2010 06:52 AM

my hubby just complains about the money and then leaves me alone. Just be happy that he is interested and encourages you to buy stuff for quilting.

ditto :)

sewnsewer2 11-29-2010 06:54 AM

 I wish! My DH acts like the fabric store has the plague. He NEVER goes with me.

Mariposa 11-29-2010 07:03 AM

My hubby would not go in a fabric store, except to find me 'cuz it's "time to go". Then says I don't need the stuff, and why can't I use what I have. He just doesn't understand!!

JulieR 11-29-2010 07:15 AM

Yes, my husband is a terrible influence on me! I always spend more when he's with me, whether it's for fabric or shoes. Lucky on the one hand, but poorer on the other :)

Deb watkins 11-29-2010 07:19 AM

Mine would never even consider going shopping with me. He has absolutely no interest at all, and getting a compliment out of him on a project is a foreign concept to him. the upside is that I am not 'bugged' by him when I am sewing, unless the computer isn't working, or he has dropped the remote and it needs to be reprogramed, or he can't find something.....

amandasgramma 11-29-2010 07:31 AM

Yes....and I LOVE it when he'll go in with me!! Unfortunately, he caught on and stays in the car -- says it's cheaper that way! LOL

clem55 11-29-2010 07:34 AM

I don't drive anymore, so mine takes me and waitsd in the car. But I always hear, " don't take too long, so I'm usually in and out of the store in an hour. I've leasrned to become a very fast shopper, but it would be nice to send him off and take my time just looking!

DJ 11-29-2010 07:36 AM

If my DH is along, he usually will read a book in the car, so I don't feel rushed. Why don't they put fabric shops next door to hardware stores?

CarrieAnne 11-29-2010 07:38 AM

Mine usually drives me, then waits in the truck. Usaully he eats fastfood in there, lol. He gets a treat, and me TOO!

deema 11-29-2010 07:41 AM

lol I wish I had your problem. He did run into the LQS for me to pick up a walking foot, though. He was in and out as fast as humanly possible. I think if I dragged him shopping with me...he'd cower in a corner shaking. LOL

sueisallaboutquilts 11-29-2010 07:42 AM

No way!!!
However, when we go to Amish Country he finds somewhere to go while I'm shopping. He has a lot of patience with me but no interest in fabric stores, although he loves what I make! So I can't complain He's a good sport about my obsession :D

dar627742 11-29-2010 07:43 AM

i'm really fortunate,my bf [of nearly 10 yrs] will take me any where, doesn' come in,just sits in the car & listens to the radio, but then when i get to check-out[he must really watch] he may surprize me by ccoming in & payint the bill!!!
how lucky i am!!!he also never complains how long it took me
he also surprized me W1909 singer w.treadle base[but was 'wired] it's a beautiful decoration, altho it does sew! all the daecals are nearly perfect.hope after xmas i'll have time to play & be able to use it!

This is my DH, too.

Now - in the grocery store - if we have the money, HE's the one more apt to throw in extras.

ckcowl 11-29-2010 09:20 AM

i made the huge mistake of taking hubby to ben franklin crafts one day, planned to pick up a yard of paper back fusable....$283 later i managed to get out of the store...he found i think 3 different fabric collections that (i needed)
they are all still on a closet shelf...maybe next year i will get caught up enough with stuff i have going on to (look) at what he decided i should be doing :)
i know one of our lqs's love to see him coming...i do not go with him, i can not afford it!
one of the lqs around he will not go to, the owner treats him like he has no business stepping through her door...so he goes to the one where they take him by the arm and start telling him all the things he should be buying me :)
in the past couple years he has taken quite an interest in fabrics...jury's still out if this is a good thing :)

auntmag 11-29-2010 09:29 AM

Same here and I prefer that he not go with me.

Mine will go to town with me (uninvited). He drops me off at the fabric store and says 'take your time'. In about seven minutes he will call and ask how much longer I'm going to be. Right then, I feel like I have to hurry. He's probably ready to go for lunch. I really like to go to town by myself. I get a lot more territory covered when he is not with me. I don't like to take the time to stop for lunch.

Ditto this!!!! :) Frankly, I'm glad he stays home so I can take my time and not feel rushed. Same with the grocery store.

EagarBeez 11-29-2010 10:16 AM

mine goes with me, since there are no quilt shops nearby, and going far, he prefers to drive. I ask his help sometimes on color. Other times he goes looking at other fabric, thinking I may like it

eaglebeak1960 11-29-2010 10:18 AM

LOL I am a DH and I do quilt my wife hates it!!! (can u believe it??) when I go to the fabric store my DW says I do not need it. Will give in about 30 percent of the time. In the process of making computer laptop quilted sleeves for xmas presents for my kids

Yours in Quilting

franie 11-29-2010 10:19 AM

Yes but only at the grocery store.

Iluv2quilt 11-29-2010 10:24 AM

I wish!!! No really, he's good at helping select fabric with me, it's fun to have him go.

Prettiptibbs 11-29-2010 11:09 AM

Oh no! Fabric shopping is best done alone! I do show and don't tell (how much I spent) after I come back!

SnowQuilt 11-29-2010 11:16 AM

Yes it happens to me all the time. I go in the fabric store just needing one thing and I end up getting alot more. My husband loves going to the fabric store with me, I have to wait until either he gets off work or his days off.

Pzazz 11-29-2010 01:12 PM

Yes, mine likes to come in with me and help me pick out what to buy. He really does have good colour sense.

Sounds like mine.. Aren't they sweethearts to think of us so??

lindagor 11-29-2010 01:14 PM

My husband understands my fabric addiction and tries his hardest not to be an enabler! If he comes into the fabric store with me I might as well stay home.

Jamiestitcher62 11-29-2010 01:20 PM

Ditto for me, my Hubby could care less what I'm doing, which makes it easier to slip the stuff by him. Not that he cares anyway. I could walk through the house with a long arm and a frame and he wouldn't have any idea what I'm doing. He might open the basement door for me so I can get it downstairs though. LOL.

Crlyn 11-29-2010 01:51 PM

Don't complain, I would take him every other week! :D

tucsonquilter 11-29-2010 01:55 PM

My DH goes with me all the time. He has learned to go straight to the number thingy in JoAnnes and grab one first then he follows me around helping with material. I am sure this would not happen if he wasnt retired and has no hobby.

CajunQuilter2 11-29-2010 01:56 PM

LOL, I am sure there are lots of ladies on here that would like that problem.....

NauDeeGal 11-29-2010 02:32 PM

My fiance will take me to LQS when traveling, go in, carry what I hand to him, wait for me to check out and carry to the truck.

When at home he will only go if he is helping me with a gift for someone else, he usually picks up this tab. Otherwise I go to stock up on batting, notions, etc. alone that way I can take my time and look around and usually get in trouble finding projects to do in 2014.

He does help me out at home with washing, drying, ironing, carrying, folding, and setting up if I need to move closer to another machine for a project.

He even surprised me with a used industrial machine from Craigslist. Paid for it to be serviced.

He has even been asking me what I am doing and why while sewing pieces together. He admitted this weekend that he would be interested in learning to sew. He did not say quilt but sewing. Just maybe I can get him to expand his horizons into quilting too one day.

He is a keeper!

IrishNY 11-29-2010 03:05 PM

Mine only comes with me if we're traveling. At home, I go alone. He usually waits in the car with a book and is fine with that. When he comes in, he's just a distraction to me.

He would never in a million years suggest I buy something nor tell me not to buy anything. He does like the quilts when finished though.
