... when they are printed on the fabric? Such as this panel. If you look closely, each block has the "Real Tree" logo on it.

If you could, would you cut it off and work around it? Or does it not really matter?

MIJul 09-09-2011 05:22 AM

I guess I wouldn't have noticed it, but now that you've pointed it out, I don't care for it. I would leave it there since it's not too obviously distracting. It would be different if it didn't blend.

kathy 09-09-2011 05:22 AM

i don't think we should have to pay them to advertise for them

wuv2quilt 09-09-2011 05:23 AM

Personally, I'd cut it off...but that's just my OCD talking...lol :)

sueisallaboutquilts 09-09-2011 05:23 AM

To me it just doesn't make sense to have the label showing.
It would probably bug me. I've never seen that before now.

charity-crafter 09-09-2011 05:24 AM

Wow, that's bad. I've not seen it quite so obvious before.
I'd be tempted to cut it off, then use it in a crumb quilt later maybe.

erstan947 09-09-2011 05:24 AM

Around here the logo is what sells the product. The hunters love "Mossy Oak" anything. It's like a sports team logo. Also John Deere.

jeank 09-09-2011 05:24 AM

I have never seen this on fabric before. I dont like it, but you cant do anything about it without damaging the block. I love the animals.

jdiane318 09-09-2011 05:25 AM

I think the manufacturer is sending a subliminal message hoping that people either won't notice or don't care.

Greenheron 09-09-2011 05:25 AM

"RealTree" has always included their name in camo goods but I do not like it on a representational picture and would cut or cover it.

QuiltnNan 09-09-2011 05:26 AM

i don't like it at all. i would cut it off, even if i had to change my pattern to accommodate the new size.

Raggiemom 09-09-2011 05:31 AM

I didn't notice it until you pointed it out but now it bugs me. Maybe cover it with applique or something? Love the panels though. They're so lifelike.

Well, if it's a poplular logo with the hunting/outdoorsman-person crowd and I was giving it to someone who liked the brand then I'd leave it on.

ghostrider 09-09-2011 05:38 AM

Nope, don't like it and would not buy it just because of that. Look how far we've come since that silly little izod alligator and the etienne aigner horseshoe.

sewwhat85 09-09-2011 05:43 AM

i agree it is distracting but it is on all their prints even in camo clothes my dh has

clsurz 09-09-2011 05:44 AM

They are protecting there brand name and have every right to do so. It is after all a fabric painted photo and no different than any other artistic product put out there that is signed.

Yes even in fabrics brand names/signatures are more valuable than it not being there.

Tartan 09-09-2011 05:52 AM

They are beautiful panels but if I was making a quilt I would design around it. BUT if you made something to sell at a craft or hunters show, it would probably sell well. BUT can you sell something with copywrited fabric in it?

Deborah12687 09-09-2011 06:24 AM

You can use the fabric as you payed for the fabric. Copywrite just means that you can't reproduse the fabric. We wouldn't be quilting if this was the case.

cattailsquilts 09-09-2011 06:32 AM

THat bugs me, so I don't buy things like that. If someone were to commission a RealTree or a John Deere quilt, then yeah, I'll buy it. But otherwise I won't spend my money on their advertising. Glad it's not just me

Annaquilts 09-09-2011 06:33 AM

I would probably not buy it because of it.

I agree with applique, and I wouldn't buy more from them, and send them a letter telling them why.

Cherylsea 09-09-2011 06:35 AM

If it bothers you (and it would me) then I would paint over it with fabric paint or applique a small leaf over it and on to the sashing. If you are gifting it to someone who cares about brands then just ignore it.... They are beautiful panels.

marcialb 09-09-2011 06:37 AM

You've already had a lot of answers but, until I Googled the term, I didn't know what it was. If you're making the wall hanging or quilt for a hunter, they may WANT the logo to show.

It probably depends on your audience.

Just my 2 yen,
Marcia

I saw a bolt of fabric at WalMart yesterday that had a logo printed every so many inches. I was wondering if it was an accident or intentional. It wasn't very large, about the size of this message font.

ecmoore 09-09-2011 06:40 AM

My grandfather was obsessed with John Deere. Everything had to be John Deere, nothing else would do, so there weren't just tractors, etc lying around the house but "John Deere Parking Only" type signs, etc. After he died, I found fabric with all their logos over the years printed on it, and turned it into a bag that I've got with me pretty much all the time. It's vintagey looking, so you only notice the john deere logo when you look closely at it, but I love it. Really, is it any different from Hello Kitty?

Shelley 09-09-2011 06:43 AM

If you are making this for a hunter, leave it on! It shows that this is THE right fabric - I know, I know - it's dumb. But most hunters LIKE the logo. Without the logo, you have just any old wildlife print. With the logo, you show you have the right stuff.

I made some snow camo pants and coat for my husband about 15 years ago. He wants a new set, but he wants them out of the EXACT same fabric. It's not made anymore, and I can prove it with the logo on the fabric. While I've found fabric that's close, it's just not the same. I thank my luck stars every day, because I'd really rather quilt than make hunting clothes....

nativetexan 09-09-2011 06:46 AM

hmm, i probably would not buy it!!

wvdek 09-09-2011 06:55 AM

The panel is lovely. So real looking.
I would leave the logo - it's a guy thing. They will love it being there. Just like Farmall, John Deere, Mossy Oak, etc.
If this is for you, by all means remove it, but be creative with how you piece together.

ShowMama 09-09-2011 06:57 AM

I don't like it either. I'd try to cover it somehow. Maybe a little bird appliqued over the name would work.

Plumtree 09-09-2011 07:01 AM

I have seen this on a few fabrics and no I probably wouldn't buy it. I don't want advertising to get in the way of my overall design.

Quilter7x 09-09-2011 07:04 AM

I do not like it and would not buy it. This fabric may cost more because it's got their log on it. If that's the case, then we would be paying a higher price for the fabric because it has a specific name on it AND we'd be advertising for them with what we make for that fabric? That doesn't seem right.

Nope, this isn't for me. Don't know what I will do if manufacturers start doing this with more fabric lines. I get that this is a panel and I doubt logos will appear on calicoes down the road. Sorry, but I don't like this.

Thank you for asking this question!

Most camoflage patterns have a brand name that is printed within the fabric, be it RealTree, Mossy Oak, etc. Most guys that are into hunting/outdoors know the difference! Camo isn't "just camo" anymore!

miholmes 09-09-2011 07:50 AM

I would probably put small triangles in all 4 corners and just cover it up. :)

I agree

I do not buy logo-based clothes for that reason.

sahm4605 09-09-2011 08:27 AM

it would bother me. I don't like having logo's on my fabrics. I don't even where them on my cloths. I am not going to pay to advertise for a company. if they want to give me a few yards of fabric free then that is another story. if they would have put it where it couldn't be seen but could be identified if you knew where to look then that is one thing. it just looks out of place.

quiltsRfun 09-09-2011 08:34 AM

I don't particulary care for it but if you cut it off you'd lose a good portion of the blocks and in some cases spoil the design.

salmonsweet 09-09-2011 09:15 AM

Ick. No way I'd buy this.

jljack 09-09-2011 09:29 AM

I don't like it at all, and I wouldn't buy anything with it on there.

Jim's Gem 09-09-2011 09:32 AM

I don't particularly care to have a logo on my work. It is distracting!

DebbyT 09-09-2011 09:39 AM

I really like the panel, but I don't like the distortion of the commercial in what could be a beautiful country quilt. This logo should be on the side where it belongs.
