Why not use both but the bright ones in the center and dull at the edge.

They look great together.

I recently had to make the same decision...same fabric as one of yours, too. The red and white with small stars looks best against a clean white and dark blue. I even bought the the "Americana" red and blue stars against the muted off-white background (all at WalMart). In the end I used only the clear red, white and blue. I love the other and will use it to make a more "Americana" overall quilt for another veteran. Short answer: I suggest you don't mix looks.

Once you get more of the hexes finished you can play around with placement and see what looks good to you. I'm thinking you could randomize the brights and muted ones for a really nice design. |
I think sometimes you need to add depth, and the only way to do that is use shades of the same color.
I say go for it! Hope you post a pic of the final results. I'll be watching. |
I think most are good, just leave out the navy stripe. Do you have more of the stamp fabric and fussy cut it? I agree that some bright white would be good.

I LIKE mixing brights with muted colors. It tones things down slightly and adds dimension to the overall look.
