I always iron before cutting. I am working on a quilt now that has 22 different fabrics in all the blocks Except for the background, I didn't have much to iron as it was two small pieces. If it is 1-2 yards I usually iron the whole piece. If it is a large piece, I iron some beyond what I need. Usually I iron one piece of fabric at a time, cut what I need, then get the next fabric.

To me, not ironing the fabric before cutting it would be like putting the dishes away without washing them. |
I never wash but do iron all my fabrics - before cutting and throughout the piecing process - my daughter always tells me I iron too much, but I think there's no such thing :)
I only starch when I'm going to be cutting small pieces but rarely when I'm making blocks out of larger pieces. |
I use Mary Ellen's Best Press - it gives the fabric body and gets out those awful wrinkles. Plus, it smells great!

I don't iron. I press each and every piece. Absolutely!

When I have large pieces, I usually cut them down to manageable sizes and then I iron. The fabric just handles better and you don't get off cuts due to wrinkles.
|
I always wash, starch (heavily) and iron ALL the fabric. It is easier to match points for me when the fabric is starched and ironed. I also iron seams after I have sewn them.

starch and iron until very stiff. the pieces cut so clean and boy do they piece together fabulously.

Always iron all before starting.
