Steam and Best Press
Steam usually, dry for paper-piecing.
I use both, depending on the job.

The Continental dry iron - Home Depot online. Love it. It's heavy, hot and doesn't have automatic shut-off. None of those annoying holes in the plate for fabric to get caught in. Highly recommend!

if I feel the wrinkles are more than spritzing can fix, I spray with water put in a plastic bag and place in the fridge over night...this will swell the threads and remove the wrinkles! |

Dry- and I think Mary Ellen's Best Press is the best stuff around! Never heard of it until I I joined the board.
Totally worth the money. |

Dry iron with spray sometimes.
Steam, but I press not iron.
I do the same thing. I hate in when the iron spews out a stream of water and steam.
lol I use both at times, I also use a light starch especially on all the washed fabric to give it stability, even have used a damp pressing cloth. Sometimes you just get that one stubborn wrinkle that doesn't want to go away! LOL
I've had to many log cabins get stretched by steam irons while at retreats, etc. Tricky pressing those blocks with steam. So, my rule is no water in my iron unless I'm ironing a recently washed large piece of yard goods before cutting.
Im a steamer too and I use spray sometimes

Both, and depends on how wrinkled the fabric is.
darn, i gave the kids my iron several years ago. . .now i guess ill have to go buy another! and an ironing board, sigh
I use steam but after seeing this it might be better with dry iron and spray bottle
Always a dry iron and water bottle near by.
Dry iron. If I need more oomph, I spritz with water, if I need MORE oomph, I use homemade Best Press.
I use a dry iron and spray bottle. I have one with water and one with starch

I use steam.
Dry and spritz while making blocks, steam after all is complete.
steam...always....
dry iron most of the time and use best press or starch when needed
Steam baby steam!!
For years I have used a steam iron, (Rowenta). Then residue started to build up inside and it started spitting out chunks so I quit using the steam and just started using it dry. If I needed to press out some stubborn wrinkles I would spritz it with water. I keep a spray bottle handy. Then I read on this QB that a lot of quilters use spray starch. I have a bottle of Best Press that I have had for a long time, but didn't really know what to do with. So, now I have been using that when I press my seams and it works like a charm. Thank you, QB, I learn so much on this site. I don't post a lot, but I do read it every day.

I use both........
Dry iron and Mary Ellen's.
I always dry iron while piecing my blocks, then spritz the finished blocks and finished tops with water from a spray bottle then press again. I don't put water in my irons if I can avoid it. Drives my hubby batty! (He presses his own clothes)
Never used starch, but considering trying it on my next finished top before loading it into my frame. |

I had been using steam, but, after reading many posts on this subject, I went to dry iron with a squirt bottle of water
Been using steam but after reading all your comments I may go back to dry and a spray bottle . I bought a Niagara Non-aerosol spray starch and do not like it as it leaves lots of 'stuff' on my cloth. Thanks for all the neat info you gals post.
