I have so....much stuff, an I am constantly re-organizing, although the fabric stays put, its all the other stuff to find places for, as you can see by my picture I have the entire top floor for sewing, 2 plus bedrooms and an open concept room which is used for my cutting table, smaller table for one of my sewing machines (one bedroom is my bedroom), the other is kinda a guest-just a full size bed in there surrounded by more fabric an bins, I have run out of wall space, any suggestions would be helpful.

Xstitshmom 10-24-2011 05:30 AM

yes, but I have to share my sewing room with the guest bedroom. I don't have very much space at all.

Buy less fabric. Sew more.

manley 10-24-2011 05:50 AM

This is so funny since I thought I was the only one that did that. :D I had a quilting little cottage built 16x16 in 2006 and now it's so full of stuff, sewing machines, a sofa, coffee table and other cabinets. I need to just get rid of some of my stuff. I can never get comfortable.

sewwhat85 10-24-2011 05:52 AM

Yes just send boxes of fabric my way and i will take care of it for you

Mamagus 10-24-2011 05:59 AM

I have a table that folds up into the wall much like a Murphy bed that is opened and closed depending on what I am doing. And my cutting table and ironing board float around the room depending on what projects are being done.

My room is 13X14 but I sure wish it was 20X20. Seriously thinking that when hubby retires I will take over the basement that is semi-finished and turn this room back into bedroom #4. With 5 children and their significant others returning to visit we do need the extra bedroom.

QuiltnNan 10-24-2011 06:01 AM

the only moving around in mine is the projects and leftovers of the projects that get moved from the cutting table to the sewing table, to the bookshelf, etc. i'm just not good at putting away

Sadiemae 10-24-2011 06:08 AM

No, but it is time to organize my whole house...

dltaylor 10-24-2011 06:20 AM

Texaspeggy 10-24-2011 07:17 AM

I could help you dispose of some of that fabric also....

Mad Mimm 10-24-2011 07:17 AM

Yes, but I don't have a lot of stuff. My room is tucked into the back of my laundry room downstairs. I am constantly rearranging for best use of space and still figuring out what is the most comfortable "work triangle" for me. I often like to rearrange/clean just before I start a new project. It somehow helps me "clear the deck" in my head and get ready to begin something new. I am pretty sure a psychologist would have a label for that tendency...

RonieM 10-24-2011 07:50 AM

Yes, even though I am pretty organized, I am always trying to find a better way to store my stuff.

kuseta 10-24-2011 08:12 AM

I don't reorganize too often, just add more stuff. My sewing room is about 10' x 11'. took out a closet and added a wall of shelves. have 2 tables and now a sewing machine in a cabinet inherited from my great aunt. not much walking space, but only need to get in and out :-). Altho, right now, there are new fabric purchases all over the floor that I have to step over. Need to reorganize all that!!

Char 10-24-2011 08:20 AM

I think a lot of us do the same. I have accumulated so much "stuff"
that I keep getting buried. I have another room where I could move some of it, but i'd rather be on this board or sewing.
:? :? :?

Me too - I live close by!

Melinda in Tulsa 10-24-2011 08:24 AM

I change my sewing room around periodically. I get bored with the layout. But in the end, the sewing machines, cutting board and ironing station always go back to original set up. Recently, I changed alot of stuff around for more efficiency. I put several sewing machines away and the only ones I have out now are my main sewing machine, embroidery machine, serger (these 3 are placed in a *U* set up and my Juki is set up for FMQ on a separate table that is in line with my *U* section. When (if) I ever get my frame set up in the guest room next door, my Juki will get moved there. Besides, when I redo my room, I have to half way clean it up!!!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Connie in CO 10-24-2011 09:33 AM

I would love to move my sewing room around,BUT no room.

babyboomerquilter 10-24-2011 09:37 AM

Great sewing room! I also move stuff around all the time excluding the fabric also. My space is not nearly as big as yours, But I still change things. Seems there is not enough time in a day!My goal is to be comfortable with things within reach for the project that I am working on.

Jill 10-24-2011 09:44 AM

I think I finally have everything the way I want it, but Saturday night I dreamed I was rearranging my sewing room. It must be in my subconscious somewhere that I need to make some changes. But it won't happen today.

Greenheron 10-24-2011 09:47 AM

An open house party for QB members with fq's for all in attendance.   Attendee from farthest away gets a bin full.

AnnieF 10-24-2011 09:48 AM

Now...my quilt studio is so small that my stuff only fits in one way...so I can utilize the outlets and still walk around.

Rose Marie 10-24-2011 11:14 AM

My room works well the way it is. But running out of room.
Need a bigger bookcase for my fats.
My computer is in my sewing room and I like that I can turn on quilting videos while I quilt.
Sometimes I just sit in here and enjoy the quilting atmosphere.
So glad I have this retreat.

Yeah, me too. LOL.

But seriously I feel like my room keeps vomitting fabric and notions.

Dande413 10-24-2011 11:25 AM

When you are ready to de-stach I will come help you. I have a van and a trailer. lol

natalieg 10-24-2011 11:55 AM

I have an 11 x 18 quilt room and rearrange it every six months or so, as far as sometimes putting the fabrics on wire shelves in the closet to bringing it back out onto bookshelves. The only thing that remains in about the same place is the quilt frame.

DonnaC 10-24-2011 11:58 AM

Well, I don't have a sewing room... my sewing stuff is in my (very small and crowded) bedroom. But yes, I am constantly moving it around. I keep trying to find the ideal arrangement... and I don't think it exists!

pojo 10-24-2011 12:30 PM

You could send us all, some of your material so you could make more room for yourself.

Rhaorth 10-24-2011 01:41 PM

I have the corner of the boys room. They are with us on the weekends, so during the week I have room to spread out... otherwise it all stays in that corner... not much I can rearrange.

Wow, that is a lot of fabric... need help destashing some of it :D

whinnytoo 10-24-2011 01:41 PM

I am constantly trying to find more space..... and when I re-organize and find some, then I fill it up again!!!'
Its a no win situation

JanetP 10-25-2011 03:33 AM

My room is about 12' x 11' and I have my sewing machine, computer and 4 needle embroider machine on two tables along with my industrial machine and a folding table that I let out to cut fabric on. I do have cabinets above the tables, which helps to store stuff, but the room is always very cluttered. Add to that the ironing board, a 127 pound lab and two very busy cats and there is hardly any room for me. It's my room, though, and I love it.

My suggestion would be to move - buy a new house - with a bigger footprint. That way, your attic space would be much larger. Used to live in Milwaukee on 55th Street. Had a wonderful bungalow with 5 bedrooms, 3 upstairs. When boys moved out, I had the whole floor except for the master to play in. Even had a walk-in closet in the hallway! Really miss the city - so much to do! Good luck on getting your space to work for you.

jitkaau 10-25-2011 04:11 AM

I have so much stuff that my whole flat is consumed with it. Others don't understand so I've decided to become a hermit...

P.S. I consider work mess to be a clean mess!

And if there's any left over I'll take it.

brushandthimble 10-25-2011 04:20 AM

I don't usually move furniture, no room. Seams like when I do "try" to clean up, I lose stuff and can't find it.
