I do quite often. They say you should have everything worked out before you start but Ive been guilty of starting from the center and building out, and one I started with the outside blocks and then made the center block so it would fit. I always change up patterns to suit what I want.
|
Yes, sure do! I will follow a pattern if it's "different" from what I'm comfortable with, but after that, (and as is often the case) when I make the same quilt I might alter it since I now have a mental "experience" picture.
Then there are all the "left over" parts to work into something else, because I always make "extra" blocks....just is case. It reminds me of when I did crochet work and knitting. Always had left over balls of thread and yarn! |
I'm actually in the process of making a queen size quilt for my DSD doing just that! It's harder than i thought, but i figured i have graph paper to draw it on in an attempt to make it somewhat square. lol

is there any other way??
I don't follow directions well, and have yet to fully follow a pattern. |
I like doing my own thing.
|
I have, but always seem to run into problems. And then it takes a long time to finish the quilt.

I guess I'm the odd one out. I don't know the first thing about designing. I love what other people are talented enough to do. My contribution is to decide on colors. I'm not very creative.
