Not only do I check there but I look at the cutting table too to see what might be waiting to be marked down! JoAnns will discount the last yd on any bolt too.

I always check the remnant bins at Joann's too. The only thing is I have found very little in cotton's for a quilt. Why? I found out why --- the employees get to them first, stash them away and purchase them when they get off work.

I've done that too but sometimes you have to be careful. I got into a bit of an argument with an employee. She told me that a remnant that I wanted was being saved for another employee. I was so stunned with that answer that I went to the store manager and still was not able to get the remnant. I left that store (I've never been back to it), went home, called their headquarters and complained. A couple weeks later I received a letter of apology along with a $25 Joann's gift card. I was told that this was NOT company policy and that this store manager was no longer with the company. I guess it pays to complain.

The remnant bin is the first place I check at either the big box fabric store or LQS. One of our LQSs considers anything under 3 yds a remnant, and they take another 25% off the price. And do they ever have beautiful fabrics!! Another LQS also has a bits-n-pieces bin where you can have as much as you can fit into a ziploc baggie for $2.00.

To make our money go even further, one of my quilting buddies (who is also a 'scrapper') and I will split our remnant purchases.
