check the remnant bins when you're fabric shopping?

Got six cotton and one broadcloth bundle, ranging from 1/3 yd to 1 5/8 yd......6 1/2+ total yds for $28.00 at Hobby Lobby Friday. Two prints for bowtucks, and the rest for pillowcase dresses for gdaughter.

Love to find pretty prints in Joann's remnant bin. 1/2 off their already discounted price. :)

Greenheron 06-06-2011 02:42 PM

Always.

mpspeedy 06-06-2011 02:42 PM

I always check the remnant bins. I often find a treasure.

JulieTN 06-06-2011 02:43 PM

You bet I do. I rove over, around and almost under anything that could hold fabric when I go into a store or shop.

You got a great buy! Congratulations! Love it.

Julie

YES as my first projects were all crazy quilts so scraps amd bits and pieces are awesome.

baskets4moo 06-06-2011 03:01 PM

Absolutely always!

Melrose R 06-06-2011 03:07 PM

I rarely find cotton fabric at my Joann's remnant bins but I have found other nice fabrics there.

trif 06-06-2011 03:20 PM

Love to find good remnants, sometimes just shy of a yard.

Jennifer22206 06-06-2011 03:50 PM

always do! They're my first stop.

scowlkat 06-06-2011 04:17 PM

I always head there first. Chances are I will find something worthwhile since I also sew clothing. In fact, I have almost the same amount of quilting and fashion/novelty fabric.

intoquilting 06-06-2011 04:24 PM

Yes, I check out the remnants. Like others have said, if it is half price, it is a bargain.

ncsewer 06-06-2011 04:39 PM

That's always the first thing I check wherever I go

AgapeStitches 06-06-2011 04:48 PM

Always....Everywhere

Dee G 06-06-2011 06:50 PM

Always, never leave the store without checking :-)

OneMoreQuilt 06-06-2011 06:50 PM

All the time!!! I love a bargain and always like a little of this and that to add to scrap quilts.

didi 06-07-2011 03:44 AM

Wouldn't pass them up.

GammaLou 06-07-2011 05:16 AM

I always go there first too! Sometime saves me getting something more expensive!

tntgranny 06-07-2011 05:35 AM

Always check the bin - even for decorator fabric. I use those to piece placemats and table runners. The decorator fabric patterns make beautiful items.

Grandma Peg 06-07-2011 06:08 AM

Yes, and sometimes you are so glad you did.

TootieAnn 06-07-2011 06:11 AM

Oh yes! Just like a yard sale, you never know what you might find. I even found some goodies in a free box of fabric at a local yard sale last weekend.

Tudey 06-07-2011 06:27 AM

I used to say I was the remnant queen----I look there before I look at the bolts. Many times I find remnants that I like but it's not a lot, maybe a little less than a yard, and I use those for bindings.

grannypat7925 06-07-2011 07:08 AM

Always check the remnant bins. Found two pieces yesterday for a total of $2.62. One is a little over 1/4 yard and the other is 3/4 yard.

lheartsl 06-07-2011 07:10 AM

yup, count me in.... I always check, and they are usually 50% off....

catrancher 06-07-2011 08:09 AM

Always.

Woman 06-07-2011 08:19 AM

Yes, always looking for bargins.

BettyGee 06-07-2011 09:31 AM

Better believe I do! I've found some great stuff there.

pugmom 06-07-2011 10:26 AM

Remnant bin is the first place I go in Joann's.

Beachbound 06-07-2011 10:28 AM

Not only do I check there but I look at the cutting table too to see what might be waiting to be marked down! JoAnns will discount the last yd on any bolt too.

gunny148 06-07-2011 10:29 AM

First thing i look for,,,that and sale items, fabric, notions that "stuff" we all collect

luce321 06-07-2011 03:01 PM

I always check the remnant bin, don't always find a bargain.

I always check the remnant bins at Joann's too. The only thing is I have found very little in cotton's for a quilt. Why? I found out why --- the employees get to them first, stash them away and purchase them when they get off work.

I've done that too but sometimes you have to be careful. I got into a bit of an argument with an employee. She told me that a remnant that I wanted was being saved for another employee. I was so stunned with that answer that I went to the store manager and still was not able to get the remnant. I left that store (I've never been back to it), went home, called their headquarters and complained. A couple weeks later I received a letter of apology along with a $25 Joann's gift card. I was told that this was NOT company policy and that this store manager was no longer with the company. I guess it pays to complain.

meemersmom 06-07-2011 11:32 PM

The remnant bin is the first place I check at either the big box fabric store or LQS. One of our LQSs considers anything under 3 yds a remnant, and they take another 25% off the price. And do they ever have beautiful fabrics!! Another LQS also has a bits-n-pieces bin where you can have as much as you can fit into a ziploc baggie for $2.00.

To make our money go even further, one of my quilting buddies (who is also a 'scrapper') and I will split our remnant purchases.

glenda5253 06-08-2011 12:10 AM

Always, always check the remnant bins!

justlooking 06-08-2011 02:27 AM

I always check also.
