My quilt was 1st prize in the raffle. 2nd prize was a bottle of wine. I overheard a ticket buyer saying that she hoped she won 2nd prize.

DebraK 07-16-2010 02:22 PM

That's awful!

judylg 07-16-2010 02:27 PM

Not sure why someone would rather a bottle of wine over a handmade quilt. I know I would love the quilt, wine a couple of glasses and it is a done deal. I am sure your quilt was lovely!

Chele 07-16-2010 03:34 PM

Awww, that's rough! The wine would be gone in a night or two. Your quilt could be cuddled for years and years. Some people just don't get it. We do though! I would have been thrilled to win first prize!

Candace 07-16-2010 03:40 PM

<Gulp> Yeah, that would have stung a bit:<

Pam 07-16-2010 03:45 PM

Awww, don't worry about it, she was probably a wino anyway.

amma 07-16-2010 03:50 PM

Some people just don't have a clue
Aren't you glad the she probably won't get it? :D:D:D

BlueChicken 07-16-2010 03:51 PM

Perhaps rather than taking the negative perspective, you could think she was just making a joke about wanting a bottle of wine. I don't even drink, but still make tongue in cheek comments about winning alcohol in raffles.

Sadiemae 07-16-2010 03:57 PM

Before my grandma got really bad. She would make dumb comments like these and my sister and I would just quickly walk away so noone would know we were with her. She didn't know what she was saying or how much it would hurt, but it sure was embarassing for us.

Annaquilts 07-16-2010 03:58 PM

Ouch! I sure hope it wasn't the person who won your quilt.

2pedersens 07-16-2010 04:08 PM

So many people don't have a clue. You wouldn't have wanted her to have your quilt. She was not deserving, that's for sure!!

C.Cal Quilt Girl 07-16-2010 04:13 PM

Oh that's sad.. not sure I'd want that person to win it !! Did donate a simple one once and the person who won was thrilled, said now he had his own, it was cute. Pretty sure it went to a good home. :)

sueisallaboutquilts 07-16-2010 04:22 PM

Maybe I have a warped sense of humor but when I read this I thought she probably meant it as a joke!! :D

Not warped, you have a positive nature, your glass is half full, not half empty. :-)

Aww, thank you!! I will now try to look at my WIPs as "half finished" instead of unfinished !!! hahahahahaha

littlehud 07-17-2010 09:56 AM

Let's hope she was joking.

sunrise450 07-17-2010 12:07 PM

I really believe she was jokeing. I know it sounded bad but some people say things like this, really meaning that they do want it in the worse way.

Twisted Quilter 07-17-2010 06:33 PM

I agree with Blue Chicken & Sunrise450, I think she was just making a joke.

LOL

She will be a cold wino

Babs194068 07-18-2010 04:17 AM

Congratulations on winning 1st place. Don't take it to heart. Some people just don't like quilts. They don't see the beauty in them.. My children are some of those people. They are glad I have the quilting to keep me busy since they father died, but they are not into quilts.

Lisa773 07-18-2010 04:18 AM

Those who do not hand craft anything, whether it's quilting, painting, crafting, etc. have no idea of the time, effort, quality, or love that goes into something hand made.
It is their loss.
I would rather have anything hand made as opposed to something store-bought any day of the week.
And perhaps your quilt wasn't meant to go to that person since it would never be appreciated. I'm sure the right person won it and it was deeply appreciated and loved.

Extreme Quilter 07-18-2010 05:49 AM

I hope she won the bottle of wine. It would have found a better home than the quilt.

quilt crazee 07-18-2010 06:37 AM

sometimes people will just SETTLE for anything, when it comes to WINNING. They don't go for the BRASS RING, oopps-quilt!

LindaR 07-18-2010 06:38 AM

maybe she was a quilter herself???? when I pay a dollar for a raffle ticket on a quilt, I rip it up. they have my dollar and I sure don't need to win a quilt. LOL See my point???

That's what I was thinking also!!!

If she won the quilt, I'm sure the person winning the wine would have gladly traded with her. Anyone could buy a bottle of wine, but it is not easy to buy a beautiful, handmade quilt.

Linda - K. 07-18-2010 09:26 AM

That's awful and funny at the same time! If she did win second prize I hope she enjoyed the wine, but think of having a great quilt for many, many years! I guess it's where your priorities lie.

mrs. fitz 07-18-2010 01:49 PM

I also took it as a joke. After reading the comments, if she was serious, I'll bet it's because she's a quilter too and probably doesn't know what to do with all her own quilts. And if that's not her reason, well then, her loss.

lynnie 07-18-2010 01:52 PM

so sorry to hear that, they just didn't know a great thing when they saw it

mollymct 07-18-2010 01:57 PM

I take that as a joke. I have a friend I can just hear making that sort of crack to me...But if not, like the others said--her loss!

Annz 07-18-2010 03:43 PM

I hope she won the bottle of wine and dropped it on the driveway on her way to her car. :-P Just joking. She didn't deserve a quilt.

In my opinion, this person isn't worth the time of day. She is the idiot and whoever she told that to probably was embarrassed. Too bad you had to hear something thats not even worth considering as a comment.

Lynnc 07-18-2010 04:04 PM

Maybe she has decorated her house in the chrome, glass and minimalist style. very bare with sharp corners. So a homemade quilt would stick out badly. So don't take it personally. Everyone has different likes. My Daughter and I are that way. When I die she will be having the largest estate sell ever. We just don't decorate the same. I had to stop picking her cloths from age 1.

marthe brault-hunt 07-18-2010 05:02 PM

I made a fool of myself by trying to pay a compliment, I was shopping at the grocery, I saw a baby wearing a gorgeous hand knit sweater. She was with her mother and grandmother. I said,,. That little girl has a grandmother that does beautiful knitting. The answer was a very dry 'Madam I would not lose my time to knit. That kind of people do exist....

Sadheart 07-18-2010 06:23 PM

ROFL!!! Just think she wants a bottle of wind. he he
That leaves the quilt for someone else who
"Will Appreciate it!!" You go girl. Kudos to the one who won. Bet it was a beautiful quilt.
Thank goodness it went to someone who needed it or wanted it
Sandra

Alondra 07-18-2010 06:55 PM

Can you apply the word "wonky" to people? If so, I vote for that to describe her! Some people just don't get it! I, too, hope she got the wine, and that someone who appreciates all the work that went into your quilt got it!

sylslight 07-18-2010 08:04 PM

you know, maybe she was just thinking she couldnt use something like that, not everyone is into homemade stuff, ya know? So hopefully it got to someone who appreciated it! but don't feel bad i too have entered a raffle, just to donate, not caring whether or not I won, and really didnt like the 1st prize either.

BUT...think about this...YOUR quilt was going to first prize! which means....YOU are very talented!!!! Think positive! :-D

colleen1978 07-19-2010 05:11 AM

I wouldn't want someone like that to have my quilt. Most people don't know how much thought and time goes into creating them. Have you ever given a quilt to someone and it wasn't appreciated? I have and it hurts to see it filthy and l laying on the floor just as much as that comment hurt.

reginalovesfabric 07-19-2010 06:14 AM

just remember some people are JERKS....I'd love to win your quilt site unseen......
