Do You Have A Felt Disc On Your Spindle
I've searched and searched the internet to find out the purpose of the felt disc that fits on the spindle under the thread spool.
I was having a discussion with someone at the quilt store and she said it's very necessary so the the thread feeds properly off the spool? I don't currently have one under my spindle and now I'm wondering if it's truly necessary??? I have two Husquvarna Viking machines a #1 and #1+ and don't remember them coming with that felt pad. I'm sure someone here will know. :0) |
Don't know but the machines that I have that do have the felt are Featherweights and only have vertical spool pins. My Vikings have both Vertical And horizontal but thinking again my Bernina is vertical without the felt.....hum good question

They protect the finish on the machine, so for that fact alone I use them. The spools rub the surface of the machine constantly and will leave permanent staining, mar the paint etc. so are a good idea.

I would check the machine manual! May be able to just make one yourself. Like I said though check your manual.

I was always told that it was for the the friction caused between the machine and spool of thread. I've always used mine.

They keep the thread spool moving evenly, an early tensioner before the thread goes through the discs.

Mine was "lost" long ago I on my 306W , no difference in the sewing or any wear on the paint.

I crocheted a little round doily to use. It's what the best dressed machines are wearing now.
