some of your fabrics ?
I look at how cute some of the fabrics are and I can't go in and cut the heads or bodies apart in the fabrics.
Does this affect others also ?

erstan947 03-29-2011 01:39 PM

I really don't have that problem. I do mostly scrap quilts and sometimes I'm sad when I use the last of a favorite fabric:)

Quiltforme 03-29-2011 01:43 PM

Yes I have the half naked men fabric and it really hurts to cut them in half :)

I don't like to cut up little bodies. But when I have fabric like that I try to use it in larger pieces to show it off better.

Same problem for me! I have a fabric that I for years have put a piece in each scrap quilt that I make...I have very little left and it will be a sad day when I use the last bit.

cjomomma 03-29-2011 02:49 PM

Nope not me! I get great joy out of cutting up fabric even if it has bodies on it.
If you imagine the body as being someone you really can't stand then you shouldnt have any problems. LOL!!

fabric_fancy 03-29-2011 03:24 PM

i have a lot of antique japanese and chinese textiles and i always hate cutting them up.

i think it bothers me so much because it gets harder and harder to find the really antique pieces.

just_the_scraps_m'am 03-29-2011 03:44 PM

You're simply dividing the litter and giving them space to grow into beautiful individuals. Just because you can't see the "whole" body, doesn't make them any less beautiful on the inside :)

Dreamer, one time I bought these really cute gingerbread boys wax candles, the kind you put in a burner with a votive underneath. I told the seller they were too cute to burn and I was afraid they would start screaming for me to blow the votive out!! She thought it was so funny that she put it in her listing lol

Burning gingerbread man :(

I did some fussy cutting today rather than multilate the characters. It won't take much of that to cure me. Too tedious.

fabricfairy 03-30-2011 03:15 AM

Yes I have a great deal of trouble cuting up pancy fabric, I think I have some of every pancy i have ever seen and it sits in a basket in my sewing room like it is queen of the sewing room , knowing it will be a very long time before it sees the edge of the blade on my cutter. I just love this fabric. Cathy

Unfortunately they haven't made a naked men fabric with the type of body that houses my one son-in-law - I would buy bolts of it and slash away to my heart's content!!!

Yep, been there. Done that. Sometimes I just have to look away and cut!!

winia 03-30-2011 05:36 AM

I have that problem. I simply put a grid and backing and a binding on some fall fabric because I could not bear to cut
it. It's just so nice in one whole piece.

I am also cutting out one right now that has a Charlie Brown
Easter theme to it. I am cutting the blocks so that Lucy
sitting in a whole bunch of eggs is complete on the block.
I'm wasting a lot of fabric, but I think it would look really
stupid with cutting bodies in half.

If there's a way other than destroying a pattern, I will do it.
Another suggestion is if you can't get around it, use the fabric
as backing for the quilt. Then you don't have to cut anything.

mhansen6 03-30-2011 06:01 AM

Nope, I just cut away. I always think long and hard about the pattern I am going to use to compliment the fabric. But when I decide I have no problem slicing and dicing.

mhansen6 03-30-2011 06:03 AM

I used to until I remembered that was the whole point.

donnalynett 03-30-2011 10:22 AM

Some of these new fabrics are so beautiful I just can't cut them. Make whole cloth quilts out of them.

TXyankee 03-30-2011 10:48 AM

I have the same problem. I am making doll clothes for my GD and keep thinking this should be in a quilt. I also am making smaller quilts for charity and keep thinking the material was a good match for the doll clothes. If I followed my feeling for the fabric I'd never make anything.

LOL

I had a friend who had a Chippendales calendar. She wondered why I didn't want one. I told her that the only muscle they had I might be interested in seeing was covered up.
