The one that has some sort of mark in the middle and lets you draw a 1/4" line on either side?

Is it accurate? Do you like it?

Should I buy one? lol

I have a friend who has recently bought two - 8in and 12in, especially for her half square triangles. Two squares together, draw three lines diagonally, and it's dead accurate.

eparys 07-17-2011 03:04 AM

I do but I have not used it much.

Darlene 07-17-2011 03:06 AM

I do and I use it when I remember I have it. LOL

ckcowl 07-17-2011 03:23 AM

i use mine all the time. it depends on what type of quilting you do- some people make lots of diagonal seams/ 1/2 squares- triangles- the need is there- others do not have use for it as often. if you do make the type of blocks it is good for- it is worth the $$ in my book- i bought mine about 6 years ago- at first didn't use it much- now use it often

CompulsiveQuilter 07-17-2011 04:00 AM

Drawing ONE diagonal line and using a 1/4" foot is the norm. I don't see why you should have to draw THREE lines. Micro-management?

Opal Jane 07-17-2011 04:25 AM

Yes...I was using it last night making HSTs. I really like it. However I hate HSTs!

gypsyquilter 07-17-2011 04:26 AM

i have one, I don't use it.

vagabondmom 07-17-2011 04:29 AM

I have one and I use it quite a bit, especially right now as I am marking a quilt for handquilting and it is invaluable for marking quarter-inch quilting lines.

romanojg 07-17-2011 04:31 AM

I have two sizes. You need to make sure that when you are drawing your outside lines that you angle in so that the line is up against ruler and when you are sewing if you can't stay on the line stay inside by a thread. The center line is your cutting line. This ruler is really great for half square triangles and flying geese (the no-waste way). When doing the geese; I normally always stay just inside the line to play it safe

snipforfun 07-17-2011 04:32 AM

I have one of these and yes they work. Just sew a little inside the lune.

Annie68 07-17-2011 04:45 AM

I have one and have used it many times over the years. A must have quilting tool.

I have 3 different sizes and use them a lot. They are very handy.

featherweight 07-17-2011 05:26 AM

I have one and don't use it. Takes to much time to draw three lines when I can use my 1/4" foot and draw one line..

Emmy Sue 07-17-2011 05:35 AM

Just got a 12-1/2 inch ruler to help in HST. Since I need a "scant" 1/4" seam on either side of the bias line, my ruler was just what I needed. My eye-balling method had too many variances.

Rose Marie 07-17-2011 05:48 AM

Two in a package by Fons and Porter.
I use them alot since I cant seem to sew a straight line.
For scant just sew inside the line a little.
You draw 2 lines, kinda tricky since the ruler is only half an inch wide.

gollytwo 07-17-2011 05:50 AM

I have 3 or 4 that I never use.
For me, it's much easier to pencil draw a diagonal line and sew on either side 1/4" away from it.

bigsister63 07-17-2011 06:03 AM

Buy the one that has a slot in the middle and edges that are 1/4" on either side. I use it for 1/2" sq triangles. You put point on each corner diaginally and draw lines on both edges and then sew on these lines and cut down center. This gives you 1/2 sq triangles. It is not really very time consuming to draw 2 lines (not three) and makes triangles easy. Actually this ruler is not very expensive and is well worth the cost even if it not used often. Anything to make you life easier.

That is what I usually do. Sometimes I think I just want a new gadget and sometimes I actually love that I bought it and other times I could smack myself upside the head...

Not sure which category this would fall into. lol

THIS is the one I was talking about. No sense in drawing 3 lines unless your cutting is off as well.

jaciqltznok 07-17-2011 06:42 AM

I love mine...and my sister stole it..so had to buy another one! Great for hand piecing and HST's

QuiltnNan 07-17-2011 07:10 AM

i have one, i just love it, i use it quite frequently

julybaby8 07-17-2011 07:14 AM

I just bought a 12 " one. A friend uses it when she does paper piecing and is showing me how she uses it.

tellabella 07-17-2011 07:53 AM

I want to buy one...they sell here as a 3 pack different sizes ...

aorlflood 07-17-2011 08:03 AM

I have a ruler like that...don't use it because I found that when you make the mark to sew on, it is >1/4" when you sew on the mark. They should have made the ruler narrower than 1/4" to compensate for the width of the mark.

Ann912 07-17-2011 08:19 AM

I have one, but don't use it.

Glassquilt 07-17-2011 08:48 AM

I have one with the slot. It measures 1/2" from side-to-side.
I use a fine line pencil and sew on the seam side of the line.

leatheflea 07-17-2011 09:10 AM

I purchased mine for making a lonestar and never used it. Ive made 2.

I turned a friend on to the easy, accurate 1/4" seam method described below and she uses her 1/4" ruler instead of the sticky note pad.

She holds her ruler down with tape.

ditto from me as well, takes way too much time drawing the lines. If I want half squares there was a tute not too long ago in my quilting email newsletter

alikat110 07-17-2011 09:03 PM

Love mine. Lack of Accuracy not an issue

Some people are just not great at sewing a 1/4 ", even with a 1/4 " foot.

JusticeClan 07-18-2011 03:07 AM

I have a 12 inch and a 6 inch and I love them both and use them all the time. Especially when you are piecing together small intricate blocks.

#1piecemaker 07-18-2011 03:46 AM

No. I don't have one so I can't help you there.

I have one and have had it for years....

maybe used it a half dozen times.

The middle line is your cutting line, and the ones on each side are your sewing lines. You can call it micromanagement if you want, but all my points matched on my last quilt.

Steady Stiching 07-18-2011 04:24 AM

I bought a set...sure seemed pricy to me. I don't use them much, like someone else said...one line is plenty just make sure you know what setting on your machine will give you a true scant 1/4

AngieS 07-18-2011 04:26 AM

I have the 12" and love it! Use it all the time. :) I can use it for several different sizes. Mine is the blue one with the open slots in it.
