you sandwich them? I have on some and not on others. Just wondering what everyone else does.

cherylynne 11-12-2010 05:17 AM

Yes, I do iron the quilt tops. I don't iron the blocks before I put them together, though.

cjomomma 11-12-2010 05:18 AM

Nope not me. I just don't have time or space for all that pressing.

I do. I like to improve the odds of having the seams lay as "attractively" as possible.

It's also a chance to see if there are any last minute glitches that might need to be touched up or changed.

(Doesn't guarantee that I'll catch them all, but there is something about pressing that sometimes shows up wonkiness)

I usually press the top while it is still in sections - it is a bit easier to handle it that way.

I also press the backing if there are any seams in it.

I also wash all my fabrics before cutting them.

Like you, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.
I tend to if it's lap size or smaller.
Larger are just too much trouble unless absolutely necessary.

Like "Bear-is-Gray" (she must be part native American!) i press mine...I'm a believer that pressing helps make the final product more square and helps keep everything lined up and also gives me the chance to check for stray threads, missed "oops" spots, etc.I think it also makes the sandwiching easier since I don't have to work so hard to get the top flat on the batting.

I press mine. For me, it means less chance of wrinkles when I sandwich them. I like to starch the top also.

Yes, I do. I want the quilt to lay as flat as possible before quilting. I also square it now and again after quilting.

I press every step of the way. Each seam, each block when done, each time I put blocks together to a row, etc. It just gives it a crisp look. The last two tops I took to the quilter, she loved it.

I press at each step also. I helps to keep things square, and I think it looks better in the end too!
