do you....jump?

I saw this gorgeous fabric for sale in a Charm Pack:

http://greenfairyquilts.com/catalog.php?item=2526

and I want to get it but have no projects in mind that would work with it, plus maybe I don't want a charm pack, maybe I want yardage and I should wait until I know. But I worry that it will disappear and I'll never find it again. What do you do when you're tempted this way?

jj1150 09-22-2012 12:23 PM

Oh my .... ME???? I'd buy it in a heartbeat!!!

jody

Sarah in Brooklyn 09-22-2012 12:29 PM

I think I might! I just bought a bunch of fabric for a baby quilt, but I think I like this better! I guess this is how one ends up with a huge stash, right?

Lori S 09-22-2012 12:58 PM

If I am still thinking about a fabric a few days after I saw it.... I take it as a solid indication it belongs in my project or stash.

I love your logic!! :)

Sarah in Brooklyn 09-22-2012 01:26 PM

Yes, I think that's a good rule of thumb!

Deborahlees 09-22-2012 01:26 PM

If you love it buy it.....if you only 'like' it .....wait....
Nothing loved is ever waisted......................

alfosa421 09-22-2012 02:47 PM

For that price I would buy it!!!!!!

Sarah in Brooklyn 09-22-2012 04:12 PM

I bought it!

Beck55 09-22-2012 04:16 PM

buy it or it may be gone when u finally decide.

LTeachergeorge 09-22-2012 04:38 PM

I seldom buy fewer than 6 charm packs of a line, unless it is a close-out. I would definitely buy it!

BellaBoo 09-22-2012 05:34 PM

If I want fabric or quilting tool or book I don't ask myself if I need it and I certainly don't bother to justify it. Those days are long past.

RedGarnet222 09-22-2012 05:51 PM

Dang it... why did you show me this? All of her pre-cuts are on sale!

Jingle 09-22-2012 06:43 PM

You can have my share, not my taste at all.

This Moda collection is for October delivery to shops. It'll be available in lots of place very shortly, I'd wager! Checked www.quiltshops.com and there is one site so far showing it; just give it a week or two, then you can comparison price shop, too. :)

I think this one is speaking to me, but will wait until Oct, then check with my LQS.

LilaKay 09-23-2012 03:04 AM

That is a very good price...

Sarah in Brooklyn 09-23-2012 03:24 AM

Since I have a project that calls for 9.5" squares, I figure it's just about ready to go!

MaryAnnMc 09-23-2012 04:18 AM

Green Fairy frequently sells their precuts at this price. One time it's layer cakes, the next time it's jelly rolls. I used to jump at the sales until I figured this out. Now I decide what I need, then wait for the sale. If it sells out, I didn't need it. There is always more fabric to fall in love with.

MimiBug123 09-23-2012 05:12 AM

LOL! I bought it when I saw your picture. I guess that answers that question! That is a gorgeous layer cake!

QuilterMomOf3 09-23-2012 07:04 AM

When I'm tempted to buy any fabric anywhere, I remind myself of the 7 GIANT 107qt. storage tubs full of fabric in my laundry room, & go "shopping" through them whenever I feel the need to shop.

Stitchit123 09-23-2012 07:13 AM

I can never justify the cost of any pre-cut packages. yardage wise the price is outrageous..I want a lot more bang for my buck

Sarah in Brooklyn 09-23-2012 07:45 AM

At this rate I'm sure I'll be there in a few years.

Sarah in Brooklyn 09-23-2012 07:46 AM

Understandable. I was tempted to wait and buy yardage of everything but I think this will be perfect for a project I have in mind, so I took the leap.

wendiq 09-23-2012 08:22 AM

You little devil you.....I jumped!!!! Ordered the layer cake....too cute fabric. I think I will use it for a Hugs and Kisses lapper.......I've been eying that pattern.......Thanks (I think....LOL)

Many think the price of precuts is the price of the fabric. It's not.
Pre cuts have all the fabric line in one package. Not all shops order all of the line in the design and having someone cut 10" square from each print would be a big NO from LQS. A layer cake pre cut goes a long way. I use layer cakes as part of my fabric stash to pull from when I need a piece smaller then a fat quarter. Pre cuts take up much less storage and I like seeing a basket full of precuts in my sewing room.

probably why my stash is that of a small LQS

JanieH 09-23-2012 11:30 AM

Yeah, Sarah, I would have bought it also!

That makes perfect sense to me. You can always use it for something and it may be gone tomorrow or next week. Go for it!!!!!!

My BF adores orange - we jumped, one is on it's way!

Alondra 09-23-2012 02:28 PM

Green Fairy Quilts is a great place to shop - they have great sales (no, I don't work for them, or even know them, but I know they're good folks). What would I do? No contest there... I'd buy it, of course. Hope it's still there when you decide!

I would buy it if I liked it. You can never have too many pre-cuts in your stash.

I like the way you think. Lori S.

Sarah in Brooklyn 09-23-2012 05:33 PM

Green Fairy should give me a bonus!

1screech 09-23-2012 05:49 PM

Hate to admit this...but I usually buy it.

Me, too - but then sometimes it's gone by the time I've decided to get it!

:thumbup::thumbup: Maybe go back and get the yardage of your favorite one to use for a border or backing?

Yooper32 09-24-2012 04:07 AM

Just saw this today and good thing you did buy it as it says, "out of stock".

Scakes 09-24-2012 04:15 AM

If I find a fabric I really like, I'll usually buy some of it. We live too far away to make return trips to the fabric stores very often.

rj.neihart 09-24-2012 05:37 AM

I'd purchase it and worry about what to do with it later...just saying..
