Do you know this pattern?

I made this quilt for my husband a couple of years ago, and he loves it. I get compliments on it all of the time and now I'd like to make another one in a different color. I have torn my quilt room apart and can't find the pattern. It's one very simple block that uses up a lot of scraps and fat quarters. I think I might have gotten it from a quilting magazine. Does anybody recognize it? THANKS!

I don't know that pattern, but it's very nice! I hope someone finds it for you and share with the rest of us.

You are all awsome! I've searched for months looking for this pattern. It IS Hunter's Star. THANK YOU!

You are the proud maker of a beautiful Hunters Star. I am making one as we speak. it is so easy to make. I do use a lot of starch to keep the bias in line!

EDIT: You can probably find a free pattern on line if you do a search. here is one!

Is it really easy to make? I've always wanted to make one but thought it looked kinda futzy to do. Hmmmm... something else to add to my to-do list?

I checked out the links and patterns everyone suggested and found that there are two versions. One is made using trapizods (and they sell a special ruler for this pattern). The quilt I orginally made (and posted above) was made with half square triangles, not the trapizods and I tracked that pattern down to Fons & Porter. It was in an old magazine, but they still sell the pattern online. The half square triangle pattern was super easy because you can use the thangles type paper. I'm already in my quilting room sorting through my fat quarters! Can't wait to start sewing. :)

by now you know it is the hunter's star...yours is adorable!

alikigirl 05-26-2012 07:51 PM

Here is a tutorial using only half square triangles and squares.

That's one beautiful Hunter's Star! Can't wait to see the new one!

Vat 05-27-2012 04:15 AM

It is a Hunters Star. I did one a couple of years ago , was easy for me. I used a light Batik and a dark Batik. Turned out really nice but if/when I do another one I will add at least one border. I didn't put one on the light and dark but wished I had. Oh well, live and learn.

jitkaau 05-27-2012 04:29 AM

The pattern is called Hunter's Star. You have made a nice job of it.

0tis 05-27-2012 04:32 AM

Looks like a hunter star - beautiful.

Before everyone goes out to buy "special" rulers, you only need a standard ruler and a cutting mat with a 45 degree angle marker to cut the piecies. Most of us have this stuff already.

I dunno, but I've seen it before, it sure is pretty!

Dogwood Quilter 05-27-2012 05:29 AM

Thanks Ube Quilting for reminding me of Roolen's tutorial. I want to try this one day. Need to make a folder on this computer called bucket list. So many ideas and so little time.

Scakes 05-27-2012 05:34 AM

Great quilt! Thanks for sharing. Glad someone could tell you what pattern it was. I'm going to mark the pattern and maybe try it later.

Do you know what issue the pattern the quilt was in for Fons and Porter? I have their books for abt. 10 yrs. Thanks

kathyd 05-27-2012 05:53 AM

My quilt guild is doing the Rapid Fire Hunter's Star (by Deb Tucker) at retreat this summer. Can't wait to use the rulers I bought last summer.

maryfrang 05-27-2012 06:35 AM

Hunter Star. Besides all the patterns available, there is a ruler for making this quilt easier than cutting all the half sq traingles. Have fun what ever way you make this quilt.

katkat1946 05-27-2012 06:57 AM

No wonder you get compliments - this is beautiful!

Bluelady 05-27-2012 07:04 AM

Its a Hunters Star, which is on my to-do list. You made a beautiful quilt!

kellen46 05-27-2012 07:30 AM

This company has a the hunters Star pattern using half square triangles and it is sooooo much easier than the traditional way. I saw this at my LQS and was instantly hooked. It is simple to do with the Thangles pack but can also be done with just some hst. Just graph it out and break it down into triangles within the block. I have even made a miniature of the pattern this way. I have always loved this pattern but until I tried it with the triangles I thought it was too complex.
Also here is the book I have on this pattern and I find it very easy to use.

It is called Hunters Star.

This was my first impression, too, from looking at your beautiful quilt. HSTs. (Although they are not my friends!). But they are probably more work than using the trapezoids. The tutorial posted by the woman in Russia makes it look super easy....once you get those trapezoids cut, which may not be as easy as they look, although she said she did not use a special ruler, just a triangle.

Either way, your quilt is really gorgeous and striking, and has inspired me, like many others, apparently. This one goes on my list.

Thanks for the photo and the inspiration!

Marilyn

It is in the Nov/Dec 2005 issue, p56.

grandme26 05-27-2012 09:44 AM

I love this pattern but have not had the time to make it. I now have a lot of FQ and could make a scrappy.

Suzanne57 05-27-2012 10:37 AM

I've never seen a scrappy Hunter's Star. sigh. Another one for my bucket list, too. I hope mine turns out as pretty as yours.

Suzanne57 05-27-2012 10:39 AM

Got to fix the signature

I made one using Roolen's method and it absolutely ROCKS. Am getting ready to teach this method to a guild and am using 2" strips and cutting the trapezpids between the 1.25 and 3.25 marks on the Companion Ruler, and the triangles are cut from 5.75" squares cut once diagonally. The first time I made this quilt I cut the strips too small (1.5") and it was more trouble than I wanted, even though the quilt turned out beautifully. After the units are sewn I still have to square them up but this method sure beats paper piecing, using templates, or any other method I have seen.

Jingle 05-27-2012 04:18 PM

All I know is it sure is beautiful.

lubberfarmgirl 05-27-2012 04:20 PM

I made this with batiks! Love yours also!

nannyrick 05-27-2012 04:35 PM

How pretty!!! I love it.
