Do you know this snowball pattern?
Looking the through the thread "Show Your Christmas Quilts" http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...t233363-3.html Post # 47 by Dollyo she shows two of her lovely Snowball Quilts with a most unusual setting. I've contacted Dollyo and she said she scratched (her words :0) this out on her own but knows there is a pattern for it somewhere.
So I come to the board asking if anyone knows if this pattern for the Snowball block perhaps it is in a book or is a stand alone pattern? I'd really like to use some of my stash Christmas fabric and make some quilts with this pattern. I've looked on Pinterest and Googled snowball blocks but I can't seem to locate it. |
It looks similar to this one but just not done on point. http://www.inthebeginningfabrics.com...wistinsert.pdf

Hope I can explain this. The snowballs alternate with nine patches. In the red and green quilt, Half the white snowballs have red corners, the other half have green corners. The nine patches are all the same, they are just rotated so that the proper color aligns with the snowball corner.
If these are 9" finished blocks, 9 1/2" unfinished -- 9 1/2" white block with 3 1/2" red or green squares for corners. The nine patch would be 3 1/2" squares -- GGR across the top -- RWR across the middle -- RGG across the bottom. The first row would be 3 nine patches alternated with 2 snowballs with red corners. The nine patches would have the double red on top. The next row would be 2 nine patches alternated with 3 snowballs with green corners. The nine patches would have the double green on top. Repeat :o) Of course, I haven't tried this yet, but that is how I see it. Good luck, Ann |
It looks similar to the MSQC Merry Go Round pattern on youtube? Jenny's is in a larger format but it might give you an idea of how it is constructed.

In 1986, Trudie Hughes had this pattern set on point calling it AROUND THE TWIST. Here is the front cover of the book and the queen size quilt top (folded in half) that I made from the book. I am sure it is out of print but maybe on this board or on eBay, someone has an old copy they would sell you. PM me if you need any more info on the book.

i've seen this several times over the years. i drew it in my EQ. it is comprised of 3 blocks. i made my blocks 9". it works well if the block size is divisible by 3.
