Do you KNOW what's in your stash?

Just wondering... is your stash piles of stuff, with so much fabric that you really don't know what's in it?

Or do any of you keep a list of what you have? Or even a list of *some* of what you have?

Are there any apps that allow quilters/crafters to manage their inventory of supplies?

My fabric (mainly scraps/pieces) is sorted by color family. I mostly know what's there. But do "find" stuff when I go digging for something to coordinate. Don't have a list.

Good question. I would like to believe I know what's in my stash.... but when I "organize" I do have surprises of either pieces I just lost track of or occasionally duplicate fabrics .. so that would suggest that I really don't know. I have not found a method of keeping an inventory that would not be so cumbersome as I would end up abandoning it. Additionally the thought of "logging in" my current inventory is just overwhelming.

I just sorted and categorized it so I'm more familiar with it than I was a few weeks ago. I have labeled the tubs of fabric so that I can find them easily. Someday I'll be able to store it more in the open where I can see it at a glance.

Cheers, K

Funny you should ask. This week is being spent going thru my stash. Its been in tubs and i have made shelf room so that i can have it all out. I was stunned at some that i don't even remember buying. The good news...i've been thinking that i had tons of fabric and can't buy any more. Once i got it all on the sheves, its really not much at all. I can buy more!

I pretty much can see what's in my stash. Most of my fabrics are in a nice white cabinet that I purchased last year when I redecorated and reorganized my studio. When I open the doors I can see what I have pretty much. I may have to dig a little in a spot or two but most of it is in clear view.

I'm pretty sure I know what's in my stash. Don't know how I would ever keep a list. Would also like to know if anyone does this.

I saw one yesterday on the "Mission" board that was simply astounding! But it was all organized beautifully, and visible.
I aspire to have such organization. Right now, my little stash (one 20 gal tote full) is 'sorta' organized by simply:
"This goes with that."
I am building 'project piles' this way, and it's working. When I get a new acquisition, I'll probably pull it all out again, just to make sure that if anything happens to match nicely with another group, that it gets put with it so I don't forget what I have that goes together.

It's funny...I find that I have much the same "taste" when I bring home new things (and have actually bought the SAME item twice!), and my project piles are coming together nicely. One is REALLY nice, and hoping to build on it a little more since it's mostly FQs and small pieces. Not enough for a full project yet.

I have a pretty good idea of what is in my stash. Some pieces I can even still remember where and when I bought them. All that fabric I know so intimately, but ask me where my keys are and I'm clueless!

My stash is in a closet stacked along the walls, sorted by color. Usually have to pull out all of the color I want to use. Really not very satisfactory but considering the volume and my limited storage space it is the best method I have found. I really envy the people who have shelf upon shelf to put their fabric on. I don't have any inventory method, I can't visualize any method that wouldn't be more trouble than it was worth.
