Do you like Moda Marbles? Or is there another line of blenders that you like better?

amma 06-29-2010 11:25 AM

I like them, but I also like to keep a variety of blenders on hand. Some projects look nicer (IMHO) with Moda, and some with a different tone on tone look like Fusions.

Ditto what amma says! :)

sharon b 06-29-2010 11:33 AM

I like them, just have a hard time locating them in my area  LOL

DebraK 06-29-2010 11:35 AM

who does the Fusions? I like those too.

Beachbound 06-29-2010 11:46 AM

I just bought Shaddows too, very nice but I forget who makes them. Blenders are a must!

ToucanSam 06-29-2010 11:50 AM

I like them, but I'd like to see more solids. Nice that Moda is doing some of these. Sometimes I just want to match a color with a true solid.

:)

thank you.

Sadiemae 06-29-2010 12:31 PM

I do like Moda Marbles. I know some of you only go to the LQS, and I don't want to get into that topic again. But I really really like the new M'Liss Blenders Tone on Tone fabrics at Hancocks. It is just beautiful and comes in about 50 colors.

charismah 06-29-2010 12:36 PM

I love moda marbles..but I don't actually use them alot if that makes sense..LOL. However I do use Stonehenge alot and I am not sure who makes them ...thinking...thinking?

sewjoyce 06-29-2010 12:41 PM

I love Moda Marbles!! :D

twistedstitcher 06-29-2010 12:41 PM

I love moda marbles. They're the perfect blender, but I noticed the last few times I bought them that the they seemed thin and they ravelled a lot.

Minda 06-29-2010 12:44 PM

I use Moda Crackle more often than Moda Marbles. Crackle has a much nicer feel to it - the Marbles is very thin. I also recently bought some Stonehenge. It's gorgeous fabric.

Northcott? I think that's who it is.

JenniePenny 06-29-2010 02:14 PM

I like the Marbles, and I also really like the Fusions.

Northcott. I love Stonehenge and it works much better with batiks than a lot of other regular cotton blenders.

I used to use a lot of Moda Marbles, but now the fabric seems thinner than I like and they just don't look/act the same. Patrick Lose (the designer of Moda Marbles) is now designing marbles for Timeless Treasures. Has anyone tried those (Marble Mania)? I'm wondering how they compare to the Modas.

I think the Timeless Treasures marbles are a little thicker than the Moda. I'm pretty sure that was what came in the Quilts for Kids kits I had. Very nice.

ghostrider 06-29-2010 03:55 PM

Thanks, that's good to hear. Maybe I'll go find some to try out!

Couldn't have said it better

Timeless Treasures does print on a thicker fabric than most of the manufacturers. (Alexander Henry and Michael Miller also print on this "beefier" cloth.)

The Marble Mania line I would describe as having a larger scale to the mottling. Meaning that the size of the light areas and dark areas is bigger than the light and dark areas in Moda Marbles. (Does that make sense?)

ghostrider 06-29-2010 06:29 PM

Ooo, that sounds good, too. :) Thanks. I like marbles as backgrounds for surface design (stamping and printing mostly) and meatier fabrics are much better for that imo.

AlleyCat 06-29-2010 06:33 PM

I also like Maywood Shadowplay and the Marble Multi-mate by Moda. I've seen and have some of the Patrick Lose marbles that he does for Timeless and they're a bit more color concentrated than the ones that he does for Moda.

rustqlts 06-30-2010 04:27 AM

Love them. I also like Benartex's Fossil Ferns. They both come in so many colors!

My quilting buddy and I have a saying we use A LOT..."I've never met a Moda Marble I haven't loved" but I have to admit I love them all, Fusions, etc.

wishiwerequilting 06-30-2010 06:19 AM

I have to admit i love them all too! i often find that when I am trying to match a particular fabric, i prefer to use the blender/mottle or even solid by the same manufacturer. They use the same dyelots and i find they match best. JMHO.

paintedquilt 06-30-2010 06:42 AM

Yes, very much :-P

littlehud 06-30-2010 07:54 AM

I love Moda marbles, but I have others too. Some I like better thank others.

Quilter7x 06-30-2010 07:59 AM

I love Moda Marbles! :)

Anna O 06-30-2010 08:02 AM

I like Moda Marbles, but have found more luck with colors with the RJR Handspray collection. I love blenders!

2 of my local quilt shop owners have recently told me that Moda is choosing to make cheaper fabric rather than increase the price as so many manufacturers are doing. They said they would quit carrying Moda because of this.

mayday 06-30-2010 09:20 AM

didn't know what they were until I looked them up!

Moda increased their prices on the marbles 25 cents/yard earlier this year. Their other collections, they've been raising the prices 10 cents or more, all along, whenever they bring the new lines out.

Fiber Artist 06-30-2010 02:35 PM

I like them all!!

I love Moda Marbles and also love Kaufman Fusions and Northcott Stonehenge for blenders. I just found a new favorite that looks like an antique tin ceiling, or like a white on white quilt. It's called Dorothy by Windham. I need to get me some. (Like I need more fabric? NOT!)

We are SO LUCKY to have such variety of cotton available to us!

Lori S 06-30-2010 02:53 PM

I do like them but Robert Kaufman has a line of what I call a fill fabric . It has fine leaves and really nice shading(fusions). I call it my when in doubt fabric ...everything goes with that line and it come in lots of great colors/shades.
Fusions replaced Moda Marbles as a staple for me.

Annz 06-30-2010 05:28 PM

Yea I like Moda Marbles.

marla 06-30-2010 06:10 PM

Patrick Lose patterns aremade with the marbles.

ewecansew 06-30-2010 10:33 PM

My favorite is Tokyo by Red Rooster for a solid substitute, good depth of color in the darker tones. Love the black, navy, dk. green, reds. Works well with batiks.
