My Bernina 440 is my "Baby". My first FW is "Spike" because the first time I saw him, I thought "This is one tough guy." My second FW, a white, is "Mz. Blanche" because she lived most of her life in Mississippi, so is a beautiful Southern lady. I haven't named my third FW, a 1951 Centennial, but am leaning toward "Penny" -- a cent, get it? My fourth is a tan, and I call her "CoCo". My fifth, a 1950 model, will be painted purple, and will probably be named "Pansy", "Lilac" or "Iris", depending on what shade of purple I can have. The sixth and latest FW doesn't have a name yet, but her serial number was released on October 8, 1952, and my birthday is December 5, 1952, so it will be something very personal to me. I also have a treadle that has no name.

My Singer's name is Luna Lovegood, Luna for short. She marches to the beat of her own drum. I feel like she goes about doing things her own way, but usually it's for our greater good. :)

My blue seam ripper is Jacque the Ripper.

My newest seam ripper is pink and lime green, and her name is Janet. Usually I call for her with line from Rocky Horror Picture Show-- "Da**it, Janet!"

My Featherweight is Quiltie because I use her only for piecing quilts. My other machine is unnamed.

Yes, I refer to them as "the girls." Betty, Sally, Sue, Doris, Minnie, Maude, and Kitty :)

My White's Jeans 2020 I called "The B*%@H" (rhymes with witch)...and trust me she was that and more! I hated that machine, but it was a gift from DH and I felt obligated to use it. Did for about 5 years then said enough. Now have 2 Janomes - one I have no idea what the model is (I think it's a European model...instruction booklet is in French!) and I love her, but haven't named her. My other machine is a Janome Heart. I'm scared to death of her! I have never used a computerized machine and I've never used it - own it now at least 2 years. I know, I know, I'm nuts. I am thinking I'll sit down this summer and make "friends" with the her. Maybe then she'll get a better name then "Unloved". :D

My Bernina 830 is named Phil and my new little Bernina is named Ben. The big Bernina can't multitask, and does only what you tell it. Both of them like to be worked with and sew better if they are taken out to play a little bit each day. My little Ford Ranger is named Tom T Ruck.

I name mine after my grandmas and great grandmas Gurtrude, Faye, Mammie vintage names for vintage beauties.

I love this! I've not named my machines, but maybe I'll give it a try. I've got a Bernina 1030 that I've had for nearly 20 years, and she's sewn everything from quilt tops, leather, jeans, knits and everything in between. Never been to a shop except once last year for a general "clean-up" & tuning. Just got a Brother computerized machine, and from what I've seen so far it was a good investment -- retired now & can't afford a new Bernina. I WILL name that seam ripper though! Except mine will be "Jack" the Ripper!

I just have to ask . . . why do some of you have so many sewing machines? Do they each do something special or better than the other? I'm saving up for a stand alone embroidery machine and maybe someday a Bailey's, and could see me trading up to a bigger/better sewing machine - but can't imagine why I would ever need/want a 2nd? Or is that something to look forward to happening after a few years?!?! (I'm new to the hobby)
