The kits I've bought did not have the pieces cut, but yardages to cut. I like kits because the fabric selection is done!

I buy the kit because I like the fabric and the pattern - I don't have to think about anything just the fun of putting it together - I really like Moda and tend to stick with that brand of fabrics and kits. I look for sales on all my fabrics and kits - I love pre-cuts and purchase them often - they really make my life a lot easier so I don't have to figure out what fabrics coordinate together - if you keep your eyes open and check the internet you can always get these on sale - I have never paid full price and often I have paid between $4.00 - $8.00 per yard for fabrics depending on what I am looking for and how much I really want it.

I have only ever bought one kit and it was because I wanted the pattern.
I have way too much fabric to use up and I like scrap quilts. They don't usually kit scraps. |
I have done pre-cut kits and sometimes the pieces were not cut accurately. Made it hard to piece together. I prefer cutting my own pieces.

I don't buy kits or even pre-cuts. The way I look at a kit is, all the kits are of the same fabrics, so the resulting quilts will all look the same, you might as well go to the store and buy a quilt, 'cause they all look the same, in my honest opinion.

Kits aren't my first choice. I had a couple that were given to me as gifts years ago. I finished one and gave it to my BIL. I will finish the other one and give it to my son after I finish my daughter's quilt.
It feels more like "mine" if I try and use my own fabric and cut and plan it myself. |
I'm not a kit person. I have purchased a kit for the fabrics that were in it but not to make the quilt. I follow quilt patterns but seldom do I follow them exact. I usually make rectangular quilts and too many patterns make square quilts. I have seen the lazer cut applique shapes and that is intriguing.

Kits are just too pricey so I just cut my own.

I like buying quilt kits. Some are pricey but the family hasn't missed a meal yet. DD may not have gotten new shoes she just had to have but she survived and I have a nice quilt instead of a pair of out of fashion shoes sitting in the closet.

Buying kits just isn't on my financial horizon, unless there is one whale of a big sale going on.
Also, I have found that there can be a substitution of fabric in a kit. So, I definitely would check that out as well. Some of the fusible kits, like for the Tree of Life are precut with the fusible already on the material. |
