Please let me know if everyone quilts on Sunday, or is that a day that you you take off from quilting. The reason that I ask is because my Mother-in-law always told me that I shouldn't sew or quilt on Sunday.
Why not? It's not the same as work, which is probably the reason she said not to. At least, I find it a good way to relax. . .
I quilt 7 days a week and would make it 8 if they'd add another day for me. LOL!!!
It's often the ONLY day I can quilt. I work full time, am busy after work. Shopping/errands on Saturday.
My Grandma said, "every stitch you sew on Sunday you will take out with your nose in heaven". At least I'll have something to do when I get to heaven:)
when im not to bussy doing other things if you arent doing it as a job i dont see what her problem would be.
If it is a way for you to relax and enjoy the day, then yes, by all means do so.
However if you are going to get yourself into a knot with the project you are doing, then perhaps it would be best to find another form of relaxing on Sunday. |
sometimes but some of the older generation doesn't believe in quilting on sundays.
Yes, I do. I am taking a break from quilting now. The weekend is when I do most of my quilting. I'm not able to do alot during the week, too tired after getting home from work and doing all the evening things that need to be done.

no, i quilt for a living and i treat it like any job. i work monday thru friday for 5 hours a day.
the evening and weekends are devoted to my family. |
Sunday is just another day ending in "day", except it's one of two days I don't have to work. This particular Sunday though I did my taxes instead. Yuch.
I can't believe anyone wouldn't
I live and breathe to quilt,,,, each and every day.
Yes, I do. I'm retired so many times the day of the week doesn't matter to me and I sew/quilt away whenever I can. May in Jersey
This must be a reunion......lol....except my Grandma told me if I sewed on Sunday I would be taking every stitch out with my teeth after I die.........

Oh my gosh!!!!! That is exactly what my Mother-in-law said to me. I did ask her if she would help me take out the stitches when we got to heaven and she said yes.....but I did promise her that I wouldn't quilt on Sunday. Gotta keep my promise.
It is recreation and yes I do quilt everyday that I can.
Today, however, I repaired two pair of jeans for my son. I had to undo the seam, etc. Next time he can take them to the tailor, better yet, maybe his wife can sew them. |
I haven't quilted in over 2 weeks. Haven't had the heart to. But, to answer your question, yes, I have quilted on Sundays.
That may be a belief of her religion. Have you asked your pastor?
Sounds dangerous to me. What's next? Dancing?
My Gramma sewed all the time, and she was the most religious and spiritual person I have ever known. She never believed that. She had some funny ideas sometimes, but that was not one of them. I know I would have heard it if she thought it was a valid idea.
I sew and play with fab only on the days that end in Y.
I just can't imagine how anyone could think it would be wrong to quilt on Sunday! Maybe these women felt this was just part of their housework & that is why they didn't do it on Sunday. Where I grew up in Michigan people also believed that everyone had to take a "nap" on Sunday afternoon. I remarked to my mother a while back that I wonder how many babies were conceived during those "naps"! LOL
I am retired so sewing is part of each day for me. But on Sunday my DD and DIL join me for a quilting session. So much enjoyment from that.
yes I do. I go to church on Sunday mornings and if I want I quilt.
I sew and quilt everyday
I quilt and sew religiously on Sunday usually while I am holding prayer service with the NASCAR drivers and their owners and fans. When the pastor prays before the race, I am in the best company of other like-minded individuals. It is Sunday and therefore I am not out shopping, attending events, I am home enjoying my day of piece (sp) peace.
Yes I sew on Sundays. The men in the house are watching the race and I stay out of their way and get to sew without unteruptions.
if i have a project that needs to be finished i do. sometimes when you have deadlines you have to work on it everyday.

I quilt everyday :D

My husband is a pastor. He works every Sunday night, sometimes he is only home for about an hour in the afternoon to eat lunch. I go to church in the morning, but Sunday evenings is sewing time for me. DH works with the College group on Sunday evenings and usually doesn't get home until between 9:30 and 10:30. Most of the time, I get the most hours of sewing in on Sundays

But will have to skip few days the week due o cataract surgery on Tuesday. |
Quilting is how I relax. I think that if it were a lot of work, no, maybe not, but I am able to let go and just not think or worry about anything. I understand that Sunday was the day where no work was done, but things have changed so much, and we work so hard that we have to do something to relax us..and quilting is it for me.
Gook luck with your cataract surgery on Tuesday.
Now, that's funny. :P

Generally that is the longest stretch of time I can give to quilting...the rest of the week I'm tired from work and I try not to sew much when my DH gets home as I treasure my time with him so much more than anything else.

I know for a fact the pastor's wife sews on Sunday. She goes shopping, to ballgames, or does anything else she wants to do and many times doesn't make it back in time for the Sunday evening service. She made the remark once that she married her husband not the church. I've liked her ever since.
