Shayla: Use that same method. Started out just not wanting to hassel with that 1/8th inch but realized it came out better on a block I was going to square up anyway.

of course every 1/4inch of the way!!!!!! would you build a house without a square?

Always, always! Makes such a difference when sewing blocks together!!!

I absolutely square my blocks, and the pieces inside the block, if need be. For instance, if you're making a Log Cabin block, after certain rounds you will have a square. I square it up before adding more logs. By the time the Log Cabin block is completed, every component within the block is square. Thnik about it; you have to sew blocks together. If they are all squared, putting the quilt together goes as smooth as silk!

I do the best I can

If I hand piece - no, I don't square, but I usually do square up machine pieced blocks, especially if there are different parts to the whole & they all need to fit together. If you fudge enough, everything gets wavy & at some point, you can't fudge anymore.

I always square up a finished block. If not, the quilt may be very wonky

When I first started quilting several years ago, I found I couldn't measure and cut very good. My DH bought me the Go-Cutter the first year I started; however, I found that I don't have every size die needed to make some blocks. So, I bought the Guidelines 4 Quilting rulers. And have the June Tailor rulers! I have found that ACCURATE cutting, ACCURATE scant 1/4 seams and squaring up make for lovely blocks and quilts. It's worth all the extra steps in the end!

Squaring up even if there is very little to trim helps me.. even then I have to be really careful to get the seams matched!
