I trim and square up the corners and than after I quilt, than I baste close to the edge before putting on the binding.

Yes, I stitch around it all at about 1/8", I lengthen the stitch to more of a basting stitch. This keeps me from getting pleats in the backing. Binding covers this line of stitching.

Same here.

Everyone wants to show off the quilt top before adding the batting, backing and binding. Sewing around the edge prevents stretching. Squaring and basting layers together keeps the quilt square and prevents tucks, also.

sometimes, yes

and

sometimes, no........

with me, depends on the quilt's fabric.

I use my serger on all of my quilts to hold all the edges together. It makes them flat so binding is easier.

Not always.

I do, with a serpentine stitch. I like the way it handles better when I'm binding it.

I serge then bind.

I think I might try this!
