Do you think this pattern would be okay done scrappy?

I have a variety of stonehenge fabrics - if I keep one light fabric for the background do you think the darks that I have could be done scrappy on this quilt? What is your opinion? I have mostly the warm Stongehenge fabrics with some greems, purple and even golden yellow....

I think it would be great, done scrappy.

mighty 12-06-2011 12:04 PM

I think it wuld look great.

feffertim 12-06-2011 12:07 PM

I am afraid you might lose some of the geometrical design look if you go scrappy. Love your fabrics and the pattern, just not sure if it would work.

Gramma B 12-06-2011 12:10 PM

Go for it! I bet it would be pretty with the material you have on hand!

zennia 12-06-2011 12:13 PM

Dont know but I LOVE your fabric.

mcdor 12-06-2011 12:24 PM

I have 14 different stonehenge fabrics and will use the pattern "all squared up".

Prism99 12-06-2011 12:27 PM

I think it would look great scrappy, but most of your fabrics are mediums. I would probably minimize the red (which is dark compared to the mediums, but bright compared to the dark brown) so it isn't too distracting, but it would add a nice spark here and there. You would need to use the dark brown for the dark in the pattern, along with the lightest fabric for the light; everything else would be mediums.

I agree, maybe add another couple of darks to keep with the scrappy feel. And follow the suggestion to use the lights/med/darks where they did in the pattern. :) :) :)

Oh wow now I know what I want for x-mas :) :)

joyce888 12-06-2011 12:48 PM

I agree with several others I think it would make a gorgeous scrappy.

yngldy 12-06-2011 12:55 PM

Just saw a pattern this morning on allpeoplequilt.com It would be perfect, but I think you would need to piece half the block and use a design wall so you didn't put the same color next to each other. It is called Illusion in Neutrals from American Patchwork December 2009. The link is for a free download of an color option, but you can at least get the idea of how to make it.

I think the pattern would be great in scrappy (much better than with just 3 fabrics) but agree that you need to pay attention to the dark, medium, and lights as used in the pattern. Your wine fabric might work as your 2nd dark, but you only have one light and the rest could be used as mediums. Beautiful fabrics, and that's a nice pattern too.

Jingle 12-06-2011 01:20 PM

I think it would look great as a scrappy.

DogHouseMom 12-06-2011 02:13 PM

It's possible. The only thing I'm not sure of is that you only have two darks (the darkest brown and the wine), and they're not as close to each other in either hue or value to give you any "dark continuity" - whereas your mediums are all very similar in value (and not too far off in hue). You'll have good continuity of color/hue in lights and mediums, but not in darks. I think the darks will look like 'splotches' of this and that and you'll lose the overall effect.

If you stuck to using just one of the darks it might work.

Also wondering if you should add one more light in between the gold and the cream to lend just a little more continuity to the lights as well.

But by all means, throw the greens and blues in with the tans in the medium spectrum for the scrappy look that you want. Just not sure if that will be scrappy enough for you.

Good luck - let us know what you do!

luvstoquilt 12-06-2011 02:46 PM

I am "Scrappy Happy"...I think it would work well...

janetter 12-06-2011 03:24 PM

OMG those are gorgeous fabrics there would be no way it could not work

I agree as well!

babalu 12-06-2011 03:41 PM

Love the quilt pattern and your fabrics! Please post a picture when you're done!

MadQuilter 12-06-2011 04:15 PM

As long as you stick to the right/consistent value in your color choices, then scrappy should look fine. It's similar to a Jacob's Ladder and those work well scrappy too.

Nana Marie 12-06-2011 04:21 PM

I used stonehenge fabric with the pattern Labyrinth by Calico Carriage Quilt Designs. It is the most beautiful quilt I have ever made!

lfletcher 12-07-2011 06:02 AM

I think you would probably end up with a blended quilt look, but those are really quite nice. Give it a try.

I agree you need to be sure to do the dark/med/light or the pattern will be lost but you have great fabric to do that.

Scraps 12-07-2011 06:09 AM

It would make a beautiful scrappy - one of my friends used these fabrics for a YBR - yellow brick road - used the burgundy for a 1/4 " frame and scrappy border. I love all the Stonehenge colors.

dlong 12-07-2011 06:31 AM

Love this pattern and I think the fabrics would do great in it.

I think it could be a stunner. Looking forward to your pictures on this (smile).

QuiltforPD 12-07-2011 06:44 AM

I ordered the pattern and of course now have a reason to buy more Stonehenge fabric...thank you for your advice!

Anna O 12-07-2011 07:11 AM

I think it would look great. I'd just make sure to use colors that have a good contrast. You don't want the fabrics to blend together.

so-sew 12-08-2011 04:19 AM

I love this pattern! And those fabrics will be incredible. Go for it and then post a photo.

quilt3311 12-08-2011 04:19 AM

Looks to me like it would be gorgeous in the fabrics you have pictured. If you make it please post a picture as I would love to see it.

Steady Stiching 12-08-2011 06:03 AM

going scrappy would be great HOWEVER...be sure to keep your values the same as in the pic, use lights where lights belong etc.

nhweaver 12-08-2011 06:13 AM

I agree, with mostly medium fabrics, the scrappy would be muddled. Adding a dark brown or even a pumpkin for the contrast, and then a mellow yellow or light beige for the lights will brighten up the scrappy look. Just my idea.

Yes, I think it would be very nice. The fabric is gorgeous.

pollyjvan9 12-08-2011 08:30 AM

I think scrappy would do okay for this pattern as long as you keep the contrast strong.

butterflies5518 12-08-2011 01:20 PM

Love both the fabrics and your pattern choice! My bucket list is groaning at this point - oh well what's one more?

wildyard 12-08-2011 02:09 PM

I think so yes

I think it would look great scrappy using those lovely batiks. If it were me, and I had enough of the wine red, I would use that where they used the dark brown and use the dark brown for my second dark. I think the red would be bold and attention getting and the other colors would definitely be a perfect setting for such a jewel!!!

grannyrae 12-08-2011 04:17 PM

hperttula123 12-08-2011 04:48 PM

I think it would be pretty. Love the fabrics you chose for it. :)

duckydo 12-08-2011 05:32 PM

Yes, it looks like it was made for scrappy. will be great

Havplenty 12-08-2011 05:33 PM

you get the geometric design from the use of lights and darks. that color play can be done scrappy.
