Sorry for the dbl post, checking mail and sending replies from my phone which seems sluggish today!
I just toss my thread and clean later. I toss scraps, I am not a scrappy quilter.
the LQS makes pet beds for the local shelter and they are stuffed with thread and snippits and very small batting scraps......since they started this for some reason my scraps seem to land in the designated tub much more often.
I have a plastic bag taped to the side of my sewing machine & I toss threads at it ... most of them go in! I worked for a tailor many years ago who insisted I toss thread on the floor & sweep later ... saved time!
I do try to get the threads to a trash can but most of the time they land on the floor. I pick them all up later as that's where my scraps go too. Good exercise to get down and pick up!!!
I try for the trash can right beside me but more ends up on the floor than in the trash.
I try and hit the waste basket but of course i have to clean up the floor too every little bit. I keep a vac close so i don't track them all over the house.
I have a cat, so threads on the floor are a big no no. My aunt, who is also a quilter, has a cat that ate a thread and the surgery cost $1200! I use a thread catcher and it works great! There a quite a few patterns for them out there. Mine goes everywhere with me whether I am quilting or doing counted-cross stitch. Also, when I am done sewing I do a floor and table check for threads and pins. I can't be too careful.
I have thread catchers and trash cans, but guess what even tho I throw toward them most ends up on me or the floor, guess I'm just a sloppy girl.....LOL...who cares!!!!
I do have a thread catcher "bag" that hangs from my sewing machine, so many of the threads do collect in there. On my floor I have hardwood floor, and I keep a swiffer in my sewing room closet, and you would be shocked at how much fluff and threads, that swiffer has on it when I'm done swiffering up my sewing room. And that's after I've tried to put all the threads in the thread catcher or the trash. I have never thought of doing something with the threads..........could one stuff a pin cushion, or something??
